What kind of massage is right for you

Massage feels sinfully good, doesn't it? The truth is, massage is one of the best things you can do for yourself; especially during times of change such as menopause. This soothing therapy has been shown to lower blood press, reduce muscle pain, improve joint flexibility and alleviate headaches, just to name a few of its healing powers. Most people think of massage in terms of muscle aches, but it's much more than that. It increases blood flow to your muscles, tissue and every cell in your body which brings oxygen and nutrients to these critical areas. It also stimulates lymphatic flow, improving tissue drainage and the immune system. Here are some of the different strokes you have to choose from: Acupressure An ancient Chinese technique involves the therapist using his fingers to press key points on the skin to release muscle tension and promote circulation and energy flow. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points, but acupuncture involves needles. The pressure restores balance to the body and treats ailments such as headaches, menstrual cramps and constipation. Swedish Massage This is probably the most common form of massage in the US. Its main goal is relaxation and improved circulation. The therapist applies oil to the skin and uses flowing strokes and kneading movements to relieve tension from the muscles. Deep Tissue Massage This type of massage is more vigorous and uses various styles to loosen the muscles. It helps break patterns of tension, relieves chronic pain, including inflammation-related pain such as tendonitis and improves range of motion. Shiatsu Shiatsu is Japanese for “finger pressure.” This technique is similar to acupressure where the practitioner uses their finger, thumb, palm, elbow, knee (and sometimes even walk on you) to put pressure on acupuncture healing points. This unblocks the flow of energy and encourages blood and lymphatic flow. It also promotes relaxation and strengthens the body against disease and restores balance. Sports Massage This treatment incorporates several massage techniques which is great for athletes. It keeps the body flexible, increases performance and assists in rehabilitation from an injury. Hot Stone Therapy During this therapy, heated stones are placed strategically on the body which dilates blood vessels and gets blood and oxygen flowing into tense areas. It can feel like a body “rush.” The soothing heat can also prepare the body for deep-tissue work as well as alleviate PMS symptoms. Aromatherapy Massage The therapist incorporates essential oils extracted from herbs, flowers and roots into the massage. They select the proper oils based on a particular physical condition and blend them into a massage oil or lotion. The end result is a relaxing massage tailored to your individual needs. Reiki This therapy is an Eastern method meaning “universal life energy.” It brings healing energy to the organs and glands in order to bring the body back into balance and help prevent disease. The massage practitioner places their hands on or just above the body to realign chakras and dissolve toxic substances from your physical and emotional being. People often feel warmth or tingling sensations during Reiki. Pregnancy Massage This massage focuses on a pregnant woman's needs including swollen hands and feet, stress on weight-bearing joints, exhaustion and lower back pain. And of course the practitioner positions you to accommodate your baby bump. Craniosacral Therapy This therapy involves the Craniosacral system which extends from the skull to the bottom of the spine and consists of the brain, spinal cord, cerebrospinal fluid and surrounding membranes. The practitioner uses a light touch to restore cerebrospinal fluid movement. This can help treat such conditions as headaches, eye and ear problems as well as whiplash and back pain.

The dirty little secrets of published authors part i

Why is it that some authors just seem to crank out the books like writing machines? Not only do they publish their first book, but after that they publish a second, third and more. I’ve been studying non-fiction authors and their habits for a while now. Ever since my partner Denise Wakeman and I started our Blog to Book Project, we’ve been learning about the challenges of consultants, speakers, and other professionals who want to publish non-fiction books to build their businesses. Common Excuses ad nauseum And we’ve heard all the excuses. And they’re not just excuses, because every writer we talk to has valid reasons they haven’t finished their book (or in some cases, haven’t even been working on their book). They go something like this: - Lack of time - Busy working at day job - Distracted by work and family responsibilities - No uninterrupted time to concentrate - Not sure the time required would be worth the results it would bring - Looking for ideal title, or a unique message - Need to narrow scope - Need to complete more research The list goes on and on. Yet when we provide solutions to these problems, more excuses pop up. It seems that the common denominator of unpublished authors is procrastination. The reasons aren’t unique; they are ubiquitous. The result is the same: another would-be author with plenty of talent and no book to show for it. We are stumped and confounded. We are sincere in our efforts to want to help people succeed at getting a book published. Yet some people do succeed at getting their books out. What is the defining difference that turns them into published authors? In Part II of this article I'll look at what behaviors make up the profile of a successful author and the defining edge required to turn procrastination into implementation.

Credit scores don t waste your money

Did you know that your credit score that you purchase online is not the same credit score your loan officer gets? You probably know that when you apply for a mortgage, your loan officer gets all three credit reporting agencies reports with three different scores. From your three credit scores, most mortgage companies use your middle credit score to determine your credit worthiness. Do you know that the credit score an auto dealer sees is not the same credit score your loan officer sees? Imagine our surprise to find out that my husband's credit score for purchasing my new car one afternoon was 50 points higher than his top credit score was earlier in the day when he refinanced an investment house.

This happened because credit scores get computed differently for mortgages and auto loans! If you think that you have a great credit score because you recently bought a new car, think again. You may have been told that your credit score was 700 by a finance company. Therefore, you think that you have the perfect credit score to buy a house.

Don't be surprised to hear from your loan officer that your credit score falls short of a prime rate mortgage loan. You don't want to have your credit history checked too often. You do get a small penalty with a few points deducted when you have too many inquiries on your credit report. However, when you're shopping for a car or a home loan, the credit reporting agencies batch your inquiries into one. In other words, you can call several mortgage lenders to shop for the best terms and rates without losing points. Don't waste your money buying your credit scores. These scores are not the ones real estate lenders get. Instead, get your credit scores FREE by calling a loan officer. Copyright © Jeanette J. Fisher

Learn to invest money in small cap stocks and make triple digit profits part three

Are you tired of earning 5%, 8%, even 15% annual returns from your stock portfolio? Want to earn triple digit gains from your stock picks? Not only is it possible but it’s absolutely probable with a few solid strategies. In Part Two of this article, I reviewed the importance of having strict buying rules to minimize your risk when investing your money in small and micro cap stocks. Here, in Part Three, I’m going to further expand and modify rule number two. Rule Number Three: Don’t try to buy at “perfect” prices. In buying small and micro cap stocks, know that you will almost never buy in at the “perfect” price. If you’ve researched a company thoroughly and are confident that its price will move upward over the short or long term, then do not wait for a “perfect” price. Chances are you will almost never buy in at a perfect price. Small and micro cap stocks almost always have greater volatility than large cap stocks and inevitably will have days of rapid price spikes upward and downward. And it’s impossible to be right all the time about when these spikes will happen. Furthermore, the law of averages should even out for you over time when buying into small and micro cap stocks. Sometimes the price will dip after you buy into a stock and you may experience immediate regret. Other times the stock’s price will rise upward from the moment you buy in and you would have never been able to buy the stock at a lower price. But if you’ve applied rule number one, even scenario in which the stock dips immediately after you buy in shouldn’t cause you to lose faith in your stock pick, because it does take a strong stomach to invest like this. I’ve had scenarios where a stock lost 10% on the same day I had purchased it, only to rebound by 60% in the next month. So instead of using a specific price point to buy a stock that seriously interests you, use a price range instead. Using hypothetical company YYY as an example, if you absolutely love the future prospects of company YYY, determine a price range that you would be okay with after studying its historical price charts. If you decide that you would be happy buying this stock at a range of $2.90 to $3.10, and the stock is sitting at $3, then go ahead and buy. I know other financial advisors that will disagree with this advice and declare that if the stock’s technical charts show weakening indices, the wait for a dip in price before deciding to buy. Unless those technical charts are negative in almost every index, I wholeheartedly disagree. Technical indicators are never right 100% of the time, often giving “false” positives and “false” negatives. Furthermore, they are even less accurate with volatile small and micro cap stocks because their inherent volatility makes their technical charts harder to evaluate for optimal buy-in prices. If an “unknown” stock’s story eventually passes through media filters to reach the public masses, its price could spike very rapidly without any technical indications. If you’re solely using technical analysis to decide the optimal buy-in price, you’d be left behind in the dust when this happens. That’s why you should determine a buy-in range, and not an exact price. Rule Number Four: Invest a smaller portion of your portfolio in riskier small and micro cap stocks. This is a self-evident rule but I’ll review it anyway, because greed sometimes makes even the most rational of human beings do crazy things. I recommend devoting no more than a maximum of 50% of the total value of your portfolio to small and micro cap stocks. Using a combination of micro and small-cap stock picks and safer large cap stocks can help you easily outperform the S&P 500. But when your small and micro-cap stocks really start to outperform the large cap portion of your portfolio, it is inevitable that the following question will invade your mind: If my small/micro cap stocks are up 75% and my large cap stocks are only up 15%, why not just shoot for 75% gains in my entire portfolio? The only reason I recommend against this is because, hopefully, from part I of this article, you gained a sense of how research and time intensive the process is of uncovering great small and micro cap stocks. Frankly it’s not that difficult but it does take LOADS of time. If you build an entire portfolio with stocks like these, unless you have LOADS of time to constantly monitor every one, it’s a much better strategy to just boost your portfolio’s performance every year with great small/micro opportunity stocks while also investing in some less volatile ones that will give you a smoother ride.

Polo shirt as marketing tool

: It can also acts as a great gift or corporate souvenir for their guests. Moreover, with the availability of company’s polo shirt it would enable their employees to wear these shirts freely or at a certain day of the week during working hours. As it would be more casual than the ordinary working attire, it can create a more lenient environment at the workplace, thus making work more fun and relaxing. A very clever way to get a company to be noticed by public is by embroidering the company logo on polo shirts. With wide varieties of designs, colors and styles to choose from at a very reasonable price, it has been a quite a popular choice for a lot of the companies. One rather new style of embroidered polo shirt is the inside pocket method. It’s a favorite among companies because of the inside pockets gives an extra security and invisibility to the shirt.

This feature is great to conceal money and other valuables items. Not only that, the nature of the design makes the shirt neater and unique. One other way to personalized the polo shirt is to custom-made the buttons, on each shirts with the company’s logo. The cuffs and collars can also be stripped in company corporate color to show the significance. Some of the designs are embroidered with simple text only while other prefers to include image and elaborated fonts. Nowadays, there are also manufacturers who not only produce the shirts but also assist in designing it. Corporate apparel polo shirts come in different types and styles for different causes and uses.

The casual look and the comfort that they often have make them ideal work uniforms for golf club employees or waiters and waitresses at fast food outlets. The design and the overall color then depend on the type of establishment they are being created for. For companies 100% cotton polo shirts woven by pique knit are better because they allow for free flow of air and they keep the employee cool and they are very durable and will last for a long time. This limits the amount of money spent on new uniforms. Sizes cater for all body frames and they are available is a very wide range of colors that include plain white, pink, blue and green. Embroidering is a method that can actually be applied to polo shirts in order to customize and make them unique. The employees can have a custom polo shirtwith their name or initials threaded on it. This makes it less difficult for others to “accidentally” take shirts that aren’t theirs.

Not only that by having the names personalized on the shirts, employees would be more encouraged to take good care of their own shirts. To accommodate the need to place mobile phones and other small items, additional pockets are placed at strategic locations on the polo shirts. Buttons and different color lining can be used to enhance the company’s identity on polo shirts. To make the best out of polo shirts in terms of marketing aspects, company should be looking into sponsoring a sport team. It is a major advertising tool that is less expensive than media promotion as the sports team sponsored will be wearing the company name on their polo shirt such as lady golf apparels. Not only it can attract crowds and fan of the sport team, if the sport team is popular, chances are the fans will be wearing the polo shirts at matches too. When this happens, the company brand and name, literally will market by itself. Because of this, sponsoring a sport team is really beneficial for a company.

How often should you call a woman

We all know that communication is key to a healthy relationship. What some men might not realize is the importance of phone calls. How often to call a girlfriend? When to call a girl? How often to return a girl's calls? The telephone - a miracle of the modern age, allowing communication through vast distances.

Although this wonder tool has been one of man's most important assets throughout human history, it has also been the source of some of man's biggest dilemmas and many a headache, particularly pertaining to girls. This dilemma is only compounded by the advent of answering services, caller trace and other suchlike devices. Knowing when and how often to call is something every guy should know if he wishes to master the art of telecommunication with the fairer sex. After all, this knowledge can really make or break a relationship even before it has actually begun. Calling for the first time So you meet the girl of your dreams in a club one night. You somehow build up the courage to talk to her and BAM!, instant connection. Interesting conversation then ensues. She actually laughs at your jokes and, wonder of wonders, she gives out her phone number. So, mission accomplished, right? Wrong. Sorry son, but this battle has barely just begun. The first call is often the most daunting, and causes men the most agitating problems. Basically screwing this up can mean clipping the wings of a possibly beautiful relationship before it has a chance to take flight. Timing is everything Be sure not to jump the gun. It is important to time the first call properly for maximum effect. Calling too soon to ask a girl out can give the impression of being too eager. Around three days is an ample waiting period. "Huh? Who is this again?" Waiting too long can be just as bad. Nothing is worse than being forgotten. It's important not to wait longer than a week to avoid a possibly embarrassing conversation. So now you've finally got a girlfriend. You've been dating for a while. Telecommunication is still an important part of the relationship. Here are some things to remember: First and foremost, when you say you're going to call her, call her. Not calling when she's expecting one can cause her to contemplate your intentions. This may lead the girlfriend to think you're not really into it. She might even start looking elsewhere for some tender loving care. Avoid calling during work. Once in a while when you have a valid reason is okay, but too much can be distracting to her. Schedule your call after working hours. Even if you have nothing to do the whole day, she does not need to know that. It's imperative to give the impression of having a busy and eventful life. Of course, it's even better if you actually have one. Also, it's best to call in the middle of the week if you're going to ask her out for the weekend. This will allow plenty of time to prepare for the possible rendezvous. After leaving a message, all that's left is to wait for a return call. Days later, could it be possible that she's not calling back? No, that's not possible. The message must have gone astray, right? Well, if the message was left to somebody else, there's a relatively good chance that she didn't receive it. So feel free to call back after a day. If it's left to some sort of answering service, chances are she received it and just doesn't want to call back. If she leaves a message, you might want to wait a day to call back so as not to seem to be at her every beck and call. Exceptions apply when the message goes somewhere along the lines of, "Help, my house is on fire!" If you find yourself geographically apart for a time, you don't have to necessarily bombard her with phone calls. Just make sure that the calls you make are meaningful. You might even send a personalized gift or card just to remind her of you. Generally you can't call your girlfriend too often unless of course she's finding reasons to cut the conversation short. This is a sign that she is showing traces of suffocation. Three times a day just to say howdy is a bit much. As is with the other important things in life, when it comes to calling your girlfriend, it is the quality and not the quantity that matters most. And above all, don't forget to call when you say you will.

Home for the holidays visiting aging parents

Joanne returned home after not seeing her parents for about 6 months. She found her dad is not doing nearly as well as he has been leading her to believe. Their weekly conversations were centered on talking about Joanne’s mom who had been ailing. Her dad had kept up the faзade that he was taking great care of her and all was well. She found out differently. The house was a mess and had not been cleaned well in some time and needed quite a bit of maintenance as things were starting to fall apart.

Bottles of pills were outdated indicating they hadn’t been taking them as prescribed. The refrigerator was almost empty of nourishing food. She felt guilty, why hadn’t she seen it before, seen it coming, read between the lines? But the truth is that an elders situation can deteriorate quite quickly: a year, 6 months even 3 months can make a big difference in one’s abilities. Each person and situation and condition is different. Here’s what to look for if you’re going home to aging parents.

This list is based upon the three areas that first indicate a need for more oversight and assistance. Personal care dirty clothing dirty hair or body appear unkempt dust in the bathtub home in disrepair or disheveled Nutrition more snacks than real food in the house very old or outdated food items in pantry Medications too many/too few pills in bottles old med bottles, no new refills still display symptoms that meds should alleviate Other general areas unexplained dents in the car not leaving the house for a week or more falls angry or passive, offensive or defensive bills or mail piled up utilities or appliances not working scorched pans Most people move to assisted living or nursing homes due to these situations, and not because they are chronically ill and need nursing care. If you see 2 or more of any of these, it is time to discuss the need for a medical check up and possible non-medical assistance to avoid further deterioration. If addressed early enough people may be able to stay in their homes longer and that is what everyone wants.

Start trading throw those excuses out the window

People make all kinds of excuses as to why they cannot get involved in investing or trading the financial markets. In this article, some of the most prominent are debunked. "I don’t have time" Despite being one of the most frequently heard, this is probably the most pathetic excuse for not trading there is. Why? Because the availability of technology and information in the modern day means that we can operate in literally any time frame we want. Many people, when they hear “trading”, think it means sitting in front of the computer all day. While that certainly is one form of trading, most of us do not have the schedule to allow us to dedicate hours each day to monitoring the markets. The good news is that we don’t have to in order to trade effectively. I will use myself as an example. My college coaching position has me frequently in the gym, in meetings, and on the road. What’s more, I run a club program and a couple of businesses on the side. In 2004, even though there were long periods when I did not trade at all, and I probably only put on a dozen total positions all year, I was still able to make 200%+ in the stock market. If I can trade given my schedule, and have performance like that, anyone can. "I don’t have the money" In the past, this was a pretty viable excuse for not trading. These days, though, one can trade with relatively little money. Transaction costs have dropped dramatically over the last decade and there are more trading options than ever before. There is one particular trading platform which allows an individual to put on trades of at little as $1 in value, and they have no minimum account size requirement. Is it better to have more money? Absolutely. The more capital you have at your disposal, the better are your available options and the more actual money you can make in raw dollar terms. Having more money is not always a good thing, though. For the inexperienced trader, it is better to have only a little money at risk. Why? It is the same as anything else. Just like anyone new to a skill make mistakes as they are learning, so do new traders. And just as a coach would not willingly throw a new player in to a championship game against experienced opponents, neither should those new to the markets to take on large trades and put significant portions of their assets at risk. It’s common sense. Better to make the inevitable mistakes when there is relatively little at risk. "It’s too risky" Trading is only as risky as you make it. If you take risky trades, then trading is risky. If you don’t, then it isn’t. There will always be the risk of losing money on a trade. That is completely unavoidable. But that could be said about all of life. Driving is one of the most risky things in the modern world, but we still do it. We reduce the risk by obeying traffic rules, planning our route, wearing seatbelts, paying attention, and all that. Does that completely eliminate the risk that of ending up in an accident? No, it doesn’t. Nor does it necessarily keep us out of traffic jams or from getting lost. We understand the risks, though, and weigh them against our need to get places in a timely fashion. Trading is the same. We do it because it helps get us where we want to go, in this case financially. There are going to be hiccups along the way, but if we are focused and conscientious, we can minimize the risks, and potentially the damage an unfortunately turn inflicts, and remain on course. "It’s too complicated" Technology and competition have combined to make trading so much easier than it has ever been before. All it takes is a couple of clicks and you can execute a trade, check your positions, get news, and anything else you need to do. The fact that you are reading this article says you have all the basic skills necessary to trade or invest. Can trading be complex? Sure it can. There are those in the markets who use complicated software, mathematical algorithms, even artificial intelligence. None of that is necessary, though. Some of the best traders use little more than price quotes or a simple bar chart. How intricate you get is strictly a matter of personal preference, not necessity. Is there a learning curve? You bet. Trading is like anything else. There are things you need to know. The good thing, though, is that there are loads of resources out there to help you learn.

Going beyond goal setting

: I just Googled the phrase “goal setting”, and found approximately 3,600,000 web pages that relate in some way to that phrase. This shouldn’t surprise us, because conventional wisdom is that goal setting is an important skill. It is easy to document both through anecdotal evidence as well as through research that setting goals can help us achieve more. There are hundreds of books, tapes, speeches, workshops, and websites that will provide us with tools and processes to set goals. One would think for something as important as goal setting, with as many tools as there are available, that everyone would be a goal setter. This however isn’t the case. While I could fill a book with the reasons why, there is one that is very important. People don’t set goals now because they didn’t achieve the ones they set in the past.

They’ve followed the goal setting process they learned or read about, but the seminar or book stopped at the wrong time. The seminar stopped with the setting of the goal. That is like ending the game after the first play, then going to sit on the sidelines, while the goal is out on the playing field. My advice to you, if you can identify with what you’ve just read is to stop worrying about goal setting. And start focusing on goal achieving.

In other words, stop worrying about which goal setting model to use, or which software to track your progress with. Stop making the goal setting process the focus, and start putting the focus on goal achievement. Here are three things you can do to put our focus on goal achievement and drastically increase your success: 1. Get sick and tired. It is often said that people really begin to reach new health goals when they become “sick and tired of being sick and tired.” Achieving a goal means that you want something different than you have now. To build your ongoing and sustaining drive to achieve the new item, knowledge or situation, you must become disgusted and dissatisfied with the current situation. This doesn’t mean that you should become bitter or grumpy, but rather it means to develop a healthy dissatisfaction with the way things are now (current profitability, the cycle time for new product development, or your inability to find a bathroom in Brazil). 2. Get (and stay) excited about the result. To sustain the challenges, setbacks and disappointments along your way to goal achievement, you must have another motivation as well. You must really want the benefits that will come to you when the new goal is achieved.

Build a clear and compelling picture in your mind of what you will feel, sense, see, and believe once your goal has been achieved. Focus on the results you will gain from the goal, rather than just the goal itself. This is important because in the end this is what you are after, not “just” the goal itself. As you work towards your goal, the goal might shift, but as long as the desired results remain clear, you have improved the likelihood of achieving the end result you desire. 3. Start a plan and get started. Notice I didn’t say to lay out a complete plan of all the steps between you and your goal. If your goal is of any size and importance at all, it will require many steps, and it will be very difficult/impossible to identify them with any degree of certainty at the start. Too many people think they need the perfect plan. They delay starting so they can get the best information.

They want to talk to one more expert, read one more book, examine two more options. Get started already! Give yourself a clear idea of a general approach, and some clear first steps. Allow yourself the luxury of knowing that the next specific steps will become clear as you stay on the path. Doing these three things will drastically increase your success in achieving any goal you set. Actually, let me say it more strongly.

Until you have these three factors going for you in large (although potentially varying) amounts, you won’t achieve the goals you set. You will lose momentum. You will lose focus. You will lose hope. You won’t be able to overcome the first setback. And you will fall into the convenient and comfortable thinking that goal setting “doesn’t work” for you or that you need a new tool, a new technique or a new guru to help you set “better” goals. Whether you are setting goals for yourself, the team you lead or for your organization at large, take this advice to heart. Focus less energy on setting the perfect goal and spend more time preparing yourself for ultimate success.

Stop worrying about the resolution, and start focusing on the resolve that will be required to succeed. Doing this will bring you greater success, less frustration and will help you and your organization move closer and closer to your potential.

Four tips for managing your life

Good news: from getting organized to maximizing your time, there are some easy ways to stay focused and achieve your goals. • What Areas Need the Most Work? Watching a reality TV show may be more entertaining than cleaning the green film off the shower stall but it won't keep your home from becoming a biohazard. Establishing and sticking to priorities will help you spend less time worrying about what needs to be done and more time accomplishing your goals. Consider using Sunday evenings, when you normally mourn the end of the weekend, to go over weekly goals and priorities. This is a great way to stay focused on what you want to accomplish without getting ahead of yourself. • Cut Out the Junk. If you're like many Americans, you keep possessions well beyond their usefulness.

When neighbors begin mistaking your garage for abstract art, you have a problem. Consider selling old appliances, clothing and furniture that add clutter to your life; to avoid the hassle of a yard sale, use Web sites such as eBay and Craigslist to sell secondhand goods. One day you may even be able to park your car in the garage. • Get the Right Equipment.

Sometimes you just need the right tools to maximize your results. A good option is Microsoft Works Suite 2006, with something for everyone in the family. Works Suite includes six of Microsoft's most popular home software programs. You can keep a detailed list of your priorities in Microsoft Word 2002; organize upcoming projects and stay on schedule with Microsoft Works 8; and create, manage and track your budget using Microsoft Money 2006 Standard. In addition, the program includes Digital Image Standard 2006, software to help you organize, enhance and share digital photos. Encarta Encyclopedia Standard 2006 comes in handy for research; and Streets & Trips Essentials 2006 helps plan, chart and navigate that road trip you always said you would take. Visit http:// microsoft. com/works for more information.

• Give Someone Else a Spot. Pledging to be more active in your community is an important goal. Instead of shying away from volunteer opportunities, make a point to reserve one day a month for charities or functions. Nonprofit organizations are flexible when it comes to working with volunteers.

None of these tips will take effect if you don't implement them into your daily routine. It only takes a couple days of procrastination before you're smothered by daily tasks and confused about what to do next. You will change your habits only by being proactive and setting constant reminders. Remember, Rome was not built in a day. By being patient with your progress and approaching your goals sooner than later, you may have some great accomplishments to celebrate.

Effects of smoking and excessive alcohol intake on bodybuilders

Both drinking and smoking can have several negative effects on one's body. The adverse impact on one’s health may lead a person to consider or, in the best case scenario, totally quit the habit. Unfortunately, several metabolic problems emerge when long-time smokers or drinkers decided to quit the habit. In regular male drinkers, lowering the alcohol intake causes a decrease in High Density Lipoprotein cholesterol and systolic blood pressure, whereas the effects of smoking in men is associated with significant increases in insulin, triglycerides, glucose, waist line measure, and overall body mass index (BMI). Regular women smokers also experience an increase in their HDL-cholesterol, BMI, and waist circumference after quitting smoking. From this information, it is clear that it would be much better not to start smoking in the first place since it is really much harder to quit the habit than to refrain from having such an addiction. The effects of smoking could also have an impact on one’s diet and normal metabolism.

One’s diet can influence the effects of nicotine on body weight regulation. Chronic nicotine exposure results in adaptive changes in both the central and peripheral molecules which regulate a person’s eating behavior and energy metabolism. This applies especially to bodybuilders looking to put on or hold onto muscle mass. Nicotine is known to decrease body weight in individual smokers, whereas nicotine withdrawal is accompanied by increased expression of the orexigenic peptides neuropeptide Y and Agouti-related protein in the hypothalamus; and decreased expression of the metabolic protein uncoupling protein-3 in brown adipose tissues. In relation to this, a conclusion can be made that for a bodybuilder looking to hold onto muscle mass, or get lean, there is some difficulty getting involved with smoking in the first place. In extreme cases, a smoking cessation clinic may be the best place to go. A French study was made to assess the effectiveness at one year of a hospital clinic that provides individual management of persons seeking to stop smoking and the factors predictive of failure. This descriptive study included smokers seeking assistance at this hospital clinic over a one year period. This analysis excludes people with schizophrenia and those who came only to one consultation. All in all, however, as with everything else, the addiction to smoking begins in one's own mind.

Food, cigarettes, alcohol and various drugs can all leave a mental imprint on one's brain, and it is up to the person to control his or her habits in a positive way in order to achieve whatever goals they have set for themselves. A bodybuilder's life is one where extreme control must be exercised on one's desires, if adequate progress is to be made. We need to be very careful in choosing what to put into our own bodies. But what really comes first is the necessity with being careful with what we choose to place into our minds. The effects of smoking such as bad breath, cancer, lowered testosterone, increased caloric intake from alcohol and accompanying poor eating habits when drunk, will eventually harm a bodybuilder's health and performance.

Prevent medical errors control your own health care

The good news: There's been an unprecedented focus on patient safety in the past five years. The bad news: Medical errors are the eighth leading cause of death in the U. S., responsible for as many as 98,000 deaths each year. The better news: According to the U. S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), while many errors result from the complexity of health care systems, patients can protect themselves by taking control of their health care. Medication, surgical and diagnostic errors are among the most prevalent and can largely be prevented through efforts from government agencies, purchasers of group health care, physicians and health care providers to make the system safer. While waiting for these large-scale, national changes, however, you can play an active role in protecting yourself against medical errors by taking control of your own health care and getting involved with every decision. "Don't assume everyone knows everything they need to about your health care," says Dr. Boyd Lyles, director of HeartHealth and Wellness Center in Dallas. "Research and practical experience show that patients who become more involved in their care get better results overall." Here are some recommendations for getting involved with your own care to prevent errors: • Ask for information about your conditions and medicines in terms you can understand. Medical information is often difficult to decipher and interpret. Make sure your provider explains your treatment plan in detail and do not leave until you understand everything you need to know about your medicines-both when they are being prescribed and when you pick them up from the pharmacy. • Keep your health care team informed. Make sure your doctors know about everything you take, from prescription medicines to dietary supplements and over-the-counter medications. Additionally, be sure your doctor knows of any allergies to prevent getting a medicine that can harm you. Personalized medical ID bracelets and necklaces, available in a variety of fashionable styles, are essential to communicate this information. Rick Russell, founder of American Medical ID, says that in many emergencies, wearing a medical ID could make a world of difference in the quality of care you receive. "Having medical information front and center helps address many risks associated with treatment. Wearing a medical ID offers you and your loved ones peace of mind." • Finally, exercise your right to question anyone involved with your care-from physicians to pharmacists to insurance companies.

Inspiring art brings caribbean scenes to life

Caribbean culture has always had a close relationship with the arts. As more and more artists from the region attract international acclaim and attention, the unique style of Caribbean painters is becoming accessible to wider and more diverse audiences. Music and literature are, perhaps, the best-known Caribbean art forms. Famous names like musician Bob Marley and poet Derek Walcott have created works the whole world enjoys. But painting is growing as a recognized form of expression. Paintings that offer colorful depictions of island life and scenery in particular are popular, and Cuba, Haiti, and Jamaica are the best known among these artistic islands. Art History The unique sights and sounds of the Caribbean have always been an inspiration to any who experience them. The bright colors of the region's landscapes and vibrant personalities of its people are particularly important in the region. The Caribbean's art history does contain a few surprises. Both Camille Pissarro and John Audubon, famous artists, were born in the Caribbean. Although their styles are not typical of the area, they have been influential in the development of the region's art. John Audubon was born in Haiti and moved to France at a young age. His study of birds took off after his later move to America. Similarly, Pissarro was born on St. Thomas in the U. S. Virgin Islands, then at the age of 12 he moved to France. After he completed school, Pissarro returned to St. Thomas. When he moved to Paris a second time, he became very influential among the Impressionists. However, Europe may only lay claim to some of the influences behind Caribbean artwork. African and Latin American styles are also strongly represented. African colors and people are often the subjects of paintings, with shades of Latin American styles to influence the images. Artistic Discovery Find fine Caribbean art on many islands, however, Cuban artists have been flourishing since the beginning of the 20th century. The political strife on Haiti and Cuba in particular have provided island artists the opportunity to express complex emotions and political beliefs through their paintings. These offer more than simply views of people, but views of a lifestyle Cuba's Wilfredo Lam was one of the first Caribbean artists to gain worldwide recognition. He was known as an associate of both Picasso and Georges Braque. Lam's success and popularity quickly turned the art world's attention toward the entire region. Fine works of art can be found on islands throughout the Caribbean, including Barbados, Jamaica, Martinique, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba. Though many of the world's most famous galleries now have Caribbean collections, the Internet has also helped art aficionados access these unique styles by allowing people to view artists' works online without having to catch a plane or physically travel to a gallery or museum that features Caribbean artists. However, fine works of art from many countries throughout the Caribbean also make popular souvenirs for those who do visit. Travelers enjoy bringing them home, and, luckily, fine arts are not included in the customs allowance for travelers returning to the United States from the Caribbean. For anyone who craves visual art that is unique and refreshing, the beautiful works of Caribbean painters are a breath of fresh air. Artists who use the Caribbean's one-of-a-kind scenery and lifestyle as the basis for their art provide a new and creative way to view paradise.

Broadband internet why purchase service online

You've made the decision to purchase broadband internet access for your home or office. What's your next step? Do you contact your local provider directly and sign up? This is certainly and option, but one that may not be in your best interest. Contacting one local provider may not be your best option because it limits your choices. It limits the specials available to you. You see, the competition for your business is fierce. There can be a number of vendor choices each offering the same or different access methods and specials.

There's cable access, DSL access, satellite access. Each comes with it's own pro's and con's. You might live in an area where all three-access methods (not counting dial-up) are available. You may live in an area where only 2 or even 1 vendor is available. How do you know? Which do you choose? The simple way is to contact the one vendor you know of, but there is another way. Use an online-brokered service. These services should be FREE to you and provide information as well as quotes from multiple vendors within your area. There are many services available on the internet for you to access this information. Of course we'd like you to use our service, free of charge, but any service you find should provide you with the following. Information - It's critical that you be provided with the information you need to make informed decisions. Quotes for service - You should be allowed free access to quoting software that will search out and report back all the available vendors within your area. This quote should be free to you as well as identify who the vendor is, what type of service it is, detailed technical information about the service, price, contract length and what specials are available to you. Lastly, there should be something in it for you as well. When searching for these types of services, don't forget to see what's in it for you! For one, our service offers rebates in addition to the vendor specials. Ok, we're biased here because we believe our service is the best, but other sites probably offer the same incentives. Also look for another level of support. You can go directly to the vendor of your choice with questions about modems, routers, email accounts, etc. and then wait until someone from their support group gets back to you. If you've purchased your broadband service using a brokered service on the internet, you should be able to contact them as well. An additional level of service is another incentive to purchasing your service online. If you contact a single vendor chances are you're not going to receive unbiased information. A broker does provide unbiased information because they are not tied to a single provider. Having access to multiple providers with multiple access types allows the flexibility to search out and find the 'appropriate' service and the best price and provides value for using the service. In closing, find a service that is FREE for you to use and provides the information, quotes for service and provides value to you in the way of cash rebates, information and another level of support. Enjoy your broadband internet experience.

7 things you need to know before you start investing

Copyright 2006 Jason Chew 1. Know your current financial situation. Know you debts level. Calculate your income and expenses by taking into account the following: Mortgage repayments Personal tax Loans and overdrafts Living expenses Emergency funds Car expenses Entertainment Holidays School fees Credit card debts Family commitments Before you start investing your money on any investment products, you should know how much you could spare each month for investment. General rule is that, you should clear your debts first, then save and invest later. That is to say the more money you put aside now, the better it will be for your future. I would say put aside 10% of your income for rainny days. 10% is a small amount that you won't feel a pinch. Save it until you have managed to build a "dam management funds". 2. Prepare funds for dam management. This goes in line with point 1. You need to keep at least 3 to 6 months ofyou income as dam management. After you have managed to do that then additional money that you saved can be used to invest. 3. Protect yourself and your family first. By this point, I mean you should have the basic life insurance that insure you and your family against terminal diseases and accident. This is very important as even though you might loose all your money through investment and if you or your family members need medical attention, it will be well taken care of. 4. Know your risk level. If you are not able to take big risks, short term investment and swing trading is notfor you. It's better to invest in mutual or trusts funds which will give a steady payout and have lower risk. If you are a high risk or medium risk taker, you can try invest in stocks, growth and hedge funds. 5. Diversify your investment. Expert would tell you it is a must to diversify your investment. Your investments needto have a steady mix of stocks, mutual funds and/or bonds. Beside that, your should invest in different industryand/or different regions. This will help you minimize your risk as fluctuations in the markets will not have a big impact on your investments. Your ideal mix will be 20-40% stock and the rest mutual funds and bonds. 6. Do your homework before you invest. It is good to seek expert advice. But, the money is ultimately yours. So you need to do some research and make a sound decision on what to invest even though your financial advisors might have already worked it out all for you. This is to make sure you know what you are investing and able to keep track of them. If your investments suffer loses you will be able to make a right decision whether to sell or hold if you know your stuff well. 7. Do stock take yearly if not frequently. Your investment might already be reaping in profits. But, it is good to know how well you fare at the end of the day. Reinvest the profits and celebrate if you have success. This will serve as motivations for you and will make you more determined to acheive your financial goals.
