Exercise at christmas without the gym

Gyms get pretty deserted around Christmas time. Everyone is so busy with preparations, parties and people visiting that it's hard to fit in getting there, getting changed and going through a routine as regularly as you might the rest of the year. But don't give up on exercise completely - you'll find it far harder to get back in the swing of things if you do. Make exercise part of the fun and keep yourself ticking over until it's time to get back to the gym in January. Maybe you'll enjoy the alternatives so much you'll never go back! 1. Do less Just do ten minutes if that's all you can manage. Ten minutes of anything - walking around the house or stair stepping or skipping or rebounding - anything that fits your level of fitness and the equipment you have available at home. You can do it in the morning before your shower and it will energise you for everything you have to get done. If you can fit in 10 minutes later on too, so much the better. You'll keep up your fitness levels and use a few calories which you can probably do with at this time of year. 2. Do a class at home Fitness videos are great if you don't have much time. There's no getting to the gym - you have everything you need right at home. You can pick them up for next to nothing from charity shops or treat yourself to one or two for Christmas. And it doesn't matter if you don't know the moves or have the latest fitness gear - nobody's watching! 3. Clear Up No doubt you have to get your home ready for friends and family visiting anyway so make the clear up a workout. Put lots of energy into it! Clear out all that clutter then clean, vacuum and polish everything until it gleams. You'll be ready for guests, keep up your fitness levels and use some calories all at the same time. 4. Active fun If you have a lot of guests and can't get your usual exercise fix organise some active fun for everyone! You could all go bowling or skating. Or try a game of charades or Twister. If it snows, you can go sledging or organise a snowman building competition. At the very least get them all out for a walk every day whatever the weather. There are sure to be some lights to go and see or a local carol service to attend. 5. Dance the Night Away Don't be a wallflower. Take every opportunity to dance at parties (it will keep you away from the buffet table too) or just invite your partner to go dancing over the holidays. You'll have fun, get closer and it'll be great exercise. Dancing uses up between 270 and 540 calories an hour depending on the speed. 6. Offer a helping hand Get active by volunteering your services in your community. You can help serve lunch at a homeless shelter or old people's home. Or just help your neighbours with running errands and snow clearing. You'll get a warm glow from lending a hand as well as from the exercise and feel much better than you do after sitting around all afternoon watching the re-runs of "White Christmas". 7. Escape And if all else fails, next year book a skiing holiday for your Christmas break instead of staying at home. There's a whole year to save up (and to dodge the rows when you tell your family you're going away next year!) Skiing is fantastic exercise and you'll come back fit, invigorated and without those extra few pounds so many seem to acquire over Christmas.

Galactose everything you ever wanted to know

Galactose is one of the 8 saccharides known as Glyconutrients. They are vital nutrients to the body and are: • Mannose • Glucose • Galactose • Xylose • Fucose (not fructose) • N-acetylglucosamine • N-acetylneuramic acid • N-acetylgalactosamine Galactose is found in sugar beets and dairy products. It is a sugar and is also known as brain sugar. Because it has food energy it is known as a nutritive sweetener. It is not very water-soluble and is less sweet than glucose. When joined with glucose it forms the disaccharide known as lactose found in milk. Alone glactose is known as a monosaccharide. Galactose is a vital nutrient in our body and deficiencies can cause serious metabolic disorders: • Mental retardation • Cataracts • A rare deficiency UDPgalactose-4-epimerase deficiency can cause nerve deafness • Galactose-1-phosphate uridyl transferase deficiency • Compulsive blinking disorder. Glactose is found in a number of natural products combined with other sugars, the most notable being lactose (combination of glactose and glucose). It is the glactose in lactose that causes an inability to digest dairy products known as lactose intolerance. It is also found in polysaccharides, carbohydrates and lipids. Lipids are found in the nerve tissue and the brain. Glactose is used in medicines and synthetic substances. A rare heriditary disease is known as Galactosemia can be found in infants. It occurs when there is too much Glactose in the body. This is caused by a liver enzyme deficiency. It is very important to diagnose this metabolic disorder early so that life long problems do not occur. This is a hereditary disease. It can only occur if one or both parents have this disorder. The disease will become apparent in the 1st days of life when the infant starts taking milk or formula. Jaundice, liver enlargement and vomiting are the usual signs of Galactosemia. However it can be further complicated by other infections. Blood tests will usually confirm diagnosis. If left untreated the disease can get serious and lead to kidney, liver, eye, and brain damage. The treatment is a glactose free diet. This is a long-term treatment and may have to be maintained for years and sometimes the whole of the person’s life. As an added precaution Expectant Mothers who are known to be at risk for this disease can also be placed on a glactose free diet during pregnancy. If diagnosed and treated early in life with an infant any liver damage will automatically heal up however if left untreated there can be irreversible damage. All jaundiced babies should be tested for Galactosemia. Galactose is also used for research into eye diseases. Consumption of yogurt and cottage cheese will produce more Galactose as the lactose in these 2 substances is easily broken down into the monosaccharide forms of glucose and galactose. Galactose can also be found in pectin, which can be obtained from fruits especially strawberries, and citrus fruits.

Bad breath halitosis

Bad breath(Halitosis)is widespread and quite common. You have probably discretely stepped away from friends or colleagues with bad breath. But it can also be a shock to realize that others, for the same reason, may be edging (discretely) away from you! How can you know if your breath is offensive? Try this simple bad breath(Halitosis)test: Lick the inside of your wrist and wait 4 seconds. Now smell your wrist. If you don't like what smell, your breath does not smell good either. Easy, no? An accurate and portable diagnosis! What causes bad breath? · Not enough water in your body, dehydration. · Gum or tooth problems/ disease · Intestinal/ stomach disorders, yeast infection · Use of medications · Stress Remedies for Bad Breath (Halitosis) 1. Water - yes, water! Many people suffer from chronic dehydration because they don't drink drink the 8-12 glasses of water a day that the body needs. This common form of dehydration causes much common bad breath. You can improve your breath - and give a big lift to your health - simply by drinking enough water. 2. Recently eaten food that hasn't been brushed out can quickly smell bad. The "cure" then is to simply brush or floss. For gum disease and decay you must visit your dentist. And for improved oral hygiene, put a few drops of Oil of Oregano on your toothbrush or to swish it in your mouth as a mouthwash. Did you know that Oil of Oregano is antibacterial/ anti viral/ anti fungus and anti parasite? It seeks out these health impediments everywhere in the body. At the first signs of infection, Oil of Oregano is your great first line of defense. 3. For disturbed digestion you should see your doctor. But for mild problems such as GERD and acid reflux, take probiotics in the form acidophilus or kefir. For worse stomach problems try ј cup of Aloe vera before breakfast. Do this for at least 3 weeks. For my friend Peter this completely healed his stomach ulcer! Most GERD are related to the H pylori, which is a bacteria found in meats that haven't been thoroughly cooked. If you like your meat rare, take Oil of Oregano on a regular basis as a preventive measure. 3. When you are under too much stress your digestive system doesn't circulate enough oxygen (the energy goes into a fight or flight mode). This makes your digestive tract a breeding ground for the wrong bacteria - and for bad breath as well. Be sure to introduce deep, relaxed breathing throughout your busy day. 4. Eat raw parsley, chew on anise seed or cardamom, nutmeg or fennel - they're natural breath fresheners that don't just mask odors, but actually freshen the breath. 5. Eat plenty of vegetables, fruit and whole grains; avoid white flour products like white bread and pastas, as well as sugared juices and sodas. 5. You may have an undetected yeast infection. Find out for yourself by performing a simple self-test for yeast/candida overgrowth. 6. Chew your food well and do not drink fluids with your food. Take no food two hours before bedtime and try to not take food for 12 hours after dinner. 7. Eliminate as often as you can. Try to have three bowel movements a day. If you need some help, try 4 ounces of prune juice with 4 ounces of magnesium citrate. (My R. N. friend Marie calls this "The Bomb".) For more help try 2000 mg. of vitamin C with electrolytes every hour. Do this for 4 hours or more, until you start to have loose stools. (This also works well for headaches and boosts your immune system. 8. Drink at least 2 cups of kefir a day. This helps your intestinal flora regain its natural balance of bacteria. Remember - fresh, clean breath is a reflection of good health, and health is an ongoing process. Stick with it! Follow my suggestions, and keep a log of what you do and the effects you see. This simple tracking process can help you pinpoint what is truly effective. You will be inspired by your own success! Warmly, Pieternel van Giersbergen.

The most under rated aspect of weightloss

If I were asked, "what is the most difficult thing many people find to do when they start a weight-loss program?", I would have to say right near the top of the list is this - they don't drink enough water! Few people realise at first just how essential water is to the success of their weight-loss program. In fact, the essential place of water in our diet extends to everyone - whether they want to lose weight, gain weight or stay the same weight! We all know we can't live without water, but just why is it so important? Well there are many reasons. Read on and discover why water can help your loss weight and why it is your essential life-force. Apart from 60-70% of your body being composed of water, water has an extensive range of functions essential to life.

Assists digestion, absorption and assimilation of food. If you don't drink enough water you can't get the full benefit of nutrients in the food you eat. Assists excretion of waste from bowel and kidneys. If you don't drink enough water you get constipated and put your kidneys under stress. Regulates body temperature. If you don't drink enough water you compromise the evaporation process you skin uses to keep you cool. Your blood is 92% water. This is your body's transport system distributing nutrients around the body. Body secretions and digestive juices are almost entirely water. Why should you drink water when you want to lose weight? Water is a natural appetite suppressant . Do NOT underestimate the power of this statement. Lack of water can lead to over eating. You brain does not differentiate between hunger and thirst. So, when you think you are feeling hungry, your body may in fact be signalling to you that you are thirsty! If you are not consuming enough water each day and you feel hunger pains, chances are, your body really is crying out for water. In many instances people will find what they thought were hunger pangs were in fact, satisfied by water. Try it! You have nothing to lose, except some weight. How do you know whether you are drinking enough water each day? Well the answer is not difficult. The average person needs around 6-8 large glasses every day. Well then, how should you drink the 6-8 glasses per day? The aim is to drink water consistently. If you drink too much all at once or too fast, it will simply pass through you, with little or no benefit to your body. If you are someone who enjoys the 'taste' of water, then perhaps you could fill a 1 litre empty soft drink container with water the drink through it twice during the day. Room temperature or cold water, even warm as some people like - whatever you prefer. Place it on the desk at work in front of you as a constant reminder to sip continuously throughout the day. Other people find they need a water 'diet' to help them keep on track. So for you, here is a program easily followed to ensure you are well hydrated every single day. When you wake up you will often be thirsty because your body loses water while you are sleeping through breathing and perspiration. Drink a large glass of water with a slice of lemon for zing. Drink another glass of water with breakfast or a cup of herbal tea before setting off the day. Mid morning - snack on a piece of juicy fruit such as orange, rockmelon, watermelon, cantaloupe, honey dew. Have a glass of water and perhaps try a dash of herbal aloe juice which is wonderfully soothing to the digestive system. Lunch - think of soup or have a glass of water before your meal, or perhaps a herbal tea. Mid afternoon - While you are preparing your evening meal, drink a glass of water and snack on some crunchy fresh vegetables. Evening - Sip a glass of water before your meal with a dash of your favourite fruit juice for flavour. After dinner - before bedtime drink your final glass of water and sleep well! A few changes will happen when you start out with your water program. Obviously you may find that you need to 'spend a penny' more often. Why? Because you body isn't used to being well hydrated. There is absolutely is no doubt about it. When you start drinking enough water regularly, there are great benefits. You may notice your skin significantly improve and even tired muscles will thank you. Many people find their energy is increased and constipation and headaches are reduced, as well as hunger pains. Now here's the really exciting part…many people notice a reduction in weight and centimetres, as their body's water store become redundant and so decrease. If your diet has been one that did not provide you with adequate water, your body will have developed a pattern of storing water. It's part of the body's in-built survival mechanism - to store up the essential nutrients in short supply…just in case they aren't available in the future. So if you don't drink enough water, you are 'conditioning' your body to store water. And water is bulk and unwanted centimetres. It's so simple...drink water! 6-8 large glasses a day. How do you know if you are not getting enough water each day? This is a really important question because so many of us have deprived ourselves of water for years that we have become accustomed to doing without the full amount of water our body requires and we don't recognise the symptoms of thirst. The most common symptom is headaches. A major function of water is to flush toxins from the body. Your brain is 75% water, so even being slightly dehydrated can cause headaches. Poor concentration/fatigue. If you body can't get rid of the toxins it will struggle and you will feel less energetic as your body diverts energy to deal with the toxins. Constipation. Your body will divert water to more essential functions and as a result your stools will be harder and more difficult to expel. Reduced urine output or dark urine. Did you know that up to 200 litres of water is passed through your kidneys daily? Without a fresh supply of water for the kidneys to filter waste products out of the blood, your urine will become darker. Furry tongue or bad breath. If you don't have enough water passing through the mouth to wash away food particles, bacteria can proliferate and result in that 'furry' feeling or bad breath. Skin. Your skin should feel elastic. When you pinch the skin on the back of your hand it should snap back instantly. Final thoughts. Caffeinated drinks cause the body to lose water. They are what's known as diuretics as they cause your body to dehydrate. You will do your body an enormous favour by cutting back. For every cup of coffee you drink you will need to drink another TWO glasses of water to counter the diuretic effect. Explore the world of herbal teas instead, you may be pleasantly surprised! -- Feel free to reprint this article in its entirety as long as you leave all links in place, please do not modify the content and include the author resource box as listed.

What you should know about acne

There are many different types of acne and with that come many theories, myths, and treatments. The exact cause of acne remains a mystery. Why some pores are affected by acne and others aren’t, is not known. Each case of acne is as complex as the individual battling it and a treatment that works on one person’s acne may not work on yours. Acne obviously has physical effects but it can also have psychological effects, especially in teens.

Most teenagers already feel awkward and different, add acne to the equation and they are identifiably different. Most teenagers with acne tend to have lower self esteem, than their peers with clear skin, and are not involved in as many activities. Adult acne is on the rise and can also be very difficult to deal with. Due to the changes that our skin goes through as we mature, scarring is often worse in adults with acne than in teens with acne. Adults with acne are also less likely than teens to seek treatment for their acne, leaving them to suffer alone. Whether you are an adult with acne or a teenager with acne, your acne probably falls into one of a two main categories, inflammatory acne or non-inflammatory acne. If you have blackheads or whiteheads, or both, then you have non-inflammatory acne.

Inflammatory acne can be a little harder to identify. Inflammatory acne is characterized by papules, pustules, and in more serious cases, nodules or cysts. Once you have determined which category your acne falls into, you can explore the treatment options for your acne. Keep in mind that even if you have tried several different acne treatments to no avail, there is always something else to try for your acne. There are new acne treatments coming up left and right and the next new acne treatment might be the one that goes directly to work attacking your acne and leaving you with the clear skin you’ve longed for.

A quick look at depression and teen suicide

An alarming truth: teen girls and boys are both at risk for suicide. Though many do not recognize suicide as a serious threat to a teenager's well being, teen suicide is a major cause of death among American teenagers. According to the National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH), about eight out of every 100,000 teenagers committed suicide in 2000. Experts estimate that for every teen suicide death, there are 10 other teen suicide attempts. They also found out that almost one in five teens had thought about suicide. About one in six teens made plans on committing suicide and that one in twelve teens had attempted suicide in the last year. As many as eight out of ten teenagers who commit suicide try to ask for help in some way before committing suicide, usually by seeing a doctor or psychiatrist shortly before the suicide attempt. Teenage girls are more likely to attempt suicide, but teenage boys are four to five times more likely to die by suicide. Even though teenage girls make more attempts on their own lives than teenage boys, the boys are more likely to actually complete a suicide attempt.

They do not allow for intervention, and are less likely to “call for help” through a suicide attempt, since there is often little opportunity to get males into treatment since their suicide completion rate is higher than that of females. What are the major factors that influence or cause teenage suicide? It is said that depression is the most common cause of teenage suicide in the United States. It is depression that leads people to focus mostly on failures and disappointments, to emphasize the negative side of their situations, and to downplay their own capabilities or self-worth. Depression or depressive disorders (unipolar depression) are mental illnesses characterized by a profound and persistent feelings of sadness or despair. Depressed persons are not interested anymore in things that were once pleasurable. The symptoms of depression include having difficulty with sleeping, loss of appetite, significant weight loss, and loss of rationality in making decisions.

Depression affects a person’s thoughts in such a way that the person doesn’t see that he or she can overcome a present problem. It’s as if the depression puts a filter on the person’s thinking and totally distorts reality. For this reason, depressed people don’t realize the gravity of pondering suicide as a means to “resolve” or escape a particular problem. A teenager with depression may feel like there’s no other way out of problems; no other escape from emotional pain, or no other way to communicate their desperate sadness. Some teenagers actually think that attempting suicide is the only way to get their message across to their family or friends. Depression is a very serious condition that can ruin a teenager's young life.

Young people with problems such as living in a violent or abusive environment, an unintended pregnancy, problems with parents, or a recent break-up with a boyfriend or girlfriend can suffer from emotional and psychological distress. Further, teenagers who feel suicidal may not even realize that they are depressed. They may even be unaware of their depression. At times, they can be so emotionally disturbed and see death as the only way out of their troubles. We must realize that it is common for teenagers to have some thoughts about death.

These thoughts can stem from a variety of causes, and can result in actual attempts on their own lives. Thus, it is very important to take suicide attempts seriously. Understanding that a teen suicide attempt is a call for help is essential to suicide prevention. Counselors and therapists can provide emotional support and can help teens develop coping skills for dealing with problems. Constant communication, guidance, and abundant love from immediate family and friends is of major importance in dealing with a teenager's with suicidal tendencies. Teens with severe emotional and psychological problems will also benefit by joining a support network for young people who are going through the same problems. When depression lifts because a teenager gets the proper therapy or treatment, the distorted thinking is cleared.

Depression need not take the life out of a teenager. With proper help and guidance, young people with problems can recover and find pleasure, energy, and hope again.

How did i become obese

I realize how difficult it is to be overweight and have low energy levels. I know how it can negatively affect your personal, social, and work life as well as increase your risk of many degenerative diseases that are rampant in today's world. Obesity is a condition in which the natural energy reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans and mammals is increased to a point where it is thought to be a significant risk factor in certain health conditions, leading to increased mortality. Obesity is a condition that develops from the interaction of individual biology and the environment. Adipose tissue is an anatomical term for loose connective tissue composed of adipocytes. Its main role is to store energy in the form of fat, although it also cushions and insulates the body. It has an important endocrine function in producing recently-discovered hormones such as leptin and resistin.

How is Fat Stored? Adipose tissue is primarily located beneath the skin, but is also found around internal organs. In the skin, it accumulates in the deepest level, the subcutaneous layer, providing insulation from heat and cold. Around organs, it provides protective padding. It also functions as a reserve of nutrients. Excessive body weight has been shown to correlate with various important diseases, particularly cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, sleep apnea, stroke, and osteoarthritis.

Obesity is both an individual clinical condition and, recently, a serious public health problem. In a severely obese person, excess adipose tissue hanging downward from the abdomen is referred to as a panniculus. A panniculus complicates surgery of the morbidly obese, and may remain as a literal "apron of skin" if a severely obese person quickly loses large amounts of weight, which is a common result of bypass surgery. Permanent solution to Obesity? I know what it's like to struggle with excessive weight gain, and today I want to share with you a truly healthful weight loss solution that has helped thousands of people lose stubborn fat pounds and inches by working along with the body, naturally with safe and lasting results. This method is the Gastric Bypass Surgery which has helped thousands in losing those tens of kilos! The results are permanent and ever lasting. We urge you to find out more information on gastric bypass surgery so that you can make that life changing decision today!

Warning flu shots can be dangerous to your health

Every year about this time doctors around the world are recommending that people go in and get their annual flu shot. What most people don’t know or understand is just how dangerous this could be, especially for children under the age of 12. When people call and say “My doctor is telling the family to go in and get a flu shot. Should I do it?”…I tell them they should learn about the side effects and decide for themselves…as a chiropractor and naturopathic physician I don’t’ have the time or energy to argue with family practitioners or family doctors who are obviously uneducated on the possible side effects or detrimental effects flu shots or vaccinations in general can have on the body. I personally have never received a flu shot and have never been ill during the flu season. In my personal opinion I don’t think toxic chemicals and strains of different viruses growing on living tissue belong inside the body. Because of the demand, I want to share with you some of the research that we have found in the latest flu shot trend and the by-products of these supposedly sterile and non-harmful solutions. I don’t know about you, but I sure would not want any of the following compounds in my bloodstream or deposited in my body.

Let’s look at what we have found in the common vaccinations: Ethylene Glycol: Ethylene Glycol is nothing more than the technical name for anti-freeze, the same stuff that you put inside your car engine. I don’t think I have to tell you what would happen if you ingest antifreeze. Thimerosal: This is a mercury derived disinfectant and preservative which is used in a majority of the vaccinations and can result in brain injury over a long period of time leading into Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s Disease, lack of memory, sluggish brain performance and also is known to induce auto-immune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, ALS as well as altering and depleting the immune system from working efficiently. Phenol: Phenol is most commonly used as a disinfectant, also used as a dye, is listened as a carcinogenic agent (cancer-causing) agent and is also known as carbolic acid. Neomycin and Streptomycin: These compounds are used as antibiotics which have side effects to include severe allergic reactions in some people. It always puzzled me why they are putting two different forms of antibiotics in a viral vaccine. Aluminum: Aluminum accumulates in the skin, bones, brain and kidneys and can cause Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Aluminum has also caused cancer in laboratory mice. It is commonly used as an additive in most vaccinations. Formaldehyde: Formaldehyde is used as a preservative. It is also classified as a carcinogenic (cancer-causing agent) and causes the body fluids to become acidic in nature. Formaldehyde will start to preserve your tissues within the body. I hope that when your doctor starts telling you that it is time for your annual flu vaccine you will present this material to him and ask him how all of these ingredients are going to prevent you from getting the flu. I’ll be very interested in knowing what his answer is to that question. As a side note just to let you know what is being injected to your body, these vaccines are strained through animal or human tissues like chicken embryos, monkey kidney tissue and embryonic guinea pig cells, to name a few. So what am I supposed to do if I don’t listen to my doctor and I decide not to get an annual flu shot? Well, you have probably made the smartest decision you have ever made in your entire life. So let me give you 5 Simple Secrets and Bonuses to Sailing Through The Flu Season: Secret #1: Reduce your intake of caffeine, alcohol and carbonated beverages and replace with purified water with addition of organic apple cider vinegar added. Two tablespoons per gallon or a capful per glass. Ideally, you should drink at least Ѕ gallon of water each day. Secret #2: Reduce intake of refined white sugar, white flour, sweets, refined grains and hydrogenated oils. Try not to over-eat, especially during the holidays. Try to get adequate exercise—at least 3 times per week. The more you move, the better your lymph system is able to move toxic materials out of the body. Secret #3: Zinc. In a majority of the studies that have been done during the flu season many people have prevented the flu by taking supplements of zinc. Zinc is one of the most powerful immune stimulants and is powerful anti-viral. There are a lot of different forms of zinc and you have to be careful on which one you choose. Therefore I recommend the best and most absorbable form of zinc which is zinc orotate. If you cannot find this form of zinc at your local health food store or natural health care practitioner contact Global Healing Center at 713.476.0016 or staff@globalhealingcenter. com. Do not take zinc at the same time you eat or drink citrus fruits or juices. It will diminish the effectiveness of the zinc. Secret #4: Eat as close to nature as possible. This means to eat food that is considered “live.” Include raw fruits (seasonal), vegetables and nuts and seeds as much as possible in your diet. If possible, buy organic or from a local farmer’s market. Make sure that you thoroughly wash your fruits and vegetables before consuming. Vegetables may be steamed lightly or used in nourishing soups and stews. Adding fresh garlic to your diet is also recommended. Secret #5: Eliminate stress and negative emotions. Being negative and allowing stress to affect you can quickly bring down the immune system. Learn to say no to activities that will over-tax your schedule. Spend time alone each day and read positive books, listen to good music or practice meditation. Train your mind to find the positive or good in every situation and treat all of these situations as a learning experience. Don’t go around playing the “victim” in life. BONUS! Secret #6: Colloidal Silver, Oxygenator and Oregano Oil: Colloidal silver has been around for hundreds of years and has been used as a natural antibiotic which promotes healing. It can also be used as a nasal spray and as eardrops. Oxygenator is a safe, stable, inorganic compound of oxygen and chlorine-containing products, in a colorless and odorless aqueous medium. Oxygenator is known to release chlorine dioxide (CL02), and the product has demonstrated efficacy as an anti-inflammatory, broad spectrum, bactericidal, fungicidal, as well as a virucidal agent. The Chemistry Literature verifies this triple-threat ability of CL02. Oregano Oil is a powerful germ and painkiller. An article published in Phytotherapy Research describes how oregano oil superceded anti-inflammatory drugs in reversing pain and inflammation and is nearly as powerful as morphine as a painkiller. The oil also possesses significant antioxidant powers. Furthermore, it stimulates the flow of bile, which greatly aids digestion. Keep these three products in your medicine cabinet at all times. All three are available from globalhealingcenter. com or call 713.476.0016. SUPER BONUS!! Extra Tips and Suggestions Get adequate sleep and rest. The body does the most healing between the hours of sundown and midnight. It is impossible to “catch-up” on sleep. Wash your hands frequently. Rinse and dry your hands thoroughly and keep them away from your eyes, nose, and mouth. If you sneeze use a tissue and throw it away as soon as possible. Buy a new toothbrush frequently. Toothbrushes can harbor viruses and prolong an illness. Eucalyptus Oil is good for relieving congestion. Put 6 drops in a hot bath or in boiling water, put a towel over your head and inhale the vapors. You can also diffuse it through an essential oil diffuser. Dairy Products. Dairy can be very mucous causing not to mention the fact that many people have an allergy to cow’s milk and don’t even know it. 3 Drops of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide in each ear 3x daily for 5 days helps relieve flu symptoms. With many flu seasons ahead I felt it was finally time to break the silence and reveal these secrets to as many people as possible. I have come to the conclusion that your Dr. doesn’t want you to know about the detrimental effects of flu shots and vaccinations. Please feel free to share this article with your friends, family and loved ones. I wish you a happy and healthy holiday season. 7 easy steps to weight loss

Is one of your New Year's resolutions to lose weight? To finally start to feel good about yourself and look good? You aren't alone, as millions of Americans are looking for that 'perfect weight loss program'. Here are a 7 steps you can start today and see results very quickly. No fads, just facts maam :o) Current statistics reveal that 75% of Americans are overweight and 40% are obese. For those who desire to lose weight and obtain optimal health, sometimes it can be overwhelming trying to figure out where to start. From the Atkins Diet to the South Beach Diet; from the low fat to low carb diets, there are numerous weight-loss plans to choose from. In addition, given conflicting information as to what works best, it can be difficult deciding what to do. For those who have tried many diet plans with no success, it becomes more difficult and frustrating. Many people forget that a diet might work wonders for their friend but won't work well for them...not because the diet is "bad", but because each body reacts differently. However, there is a way to lose weight that is easy, fast, and doesn't involve deprivation or calorie counting. Before the weight loss tips are discussed, it's important to address some background information about body genetics and why weight loss can be difficult. Before anyone starts a diet, it is important to note that each person has a different body build. Some people are short and stout while others are tall and thin. Some have big hips and shoulders, and others are short and very muscular. Genetics can determine body shape and a person's natural build just as it does eye color, hair color, skin color, and so on. The good news is that genetics do not determine whether or not one will be fat, but will determine one's body shape. This means that not every woman can expect to be tall and thin like a Hollywood actress or supermodel such as Tyra Banks. Not every man can expect to be defined and muscular like The Rock. The goal, really, is to be at a comfortable weight for one's body shape and to feel good about it. So, why are people overweight? Here are 11 of the most common reasons: 1. Slow metabolism: People who are overweight have a hard time burning off food. As a result, the fat is stored. 2. Emotional eating: Those who struggle with weight often eat when stressed or when other emotional upheavals are happening in their life. 3. Hormonal imbalances. 4. Eating portions that are too large. 5. Eating lots of "diet food" (that is low fat, low carb, and "sugar free" foods). 6. Build up of toxins in the body. 7. Eating late: Late-night eating can cause food to convert to fat more easily. 8. High susceptibility to growth hormones: These hormones are given to animals to help them grow faster and larger, so meat and dairy have residual growth hormones. In humans, these hormones can result in increased fat storage. 9. Not eating breakfast. 10. Numerous diets: Going from diet to diet has a negative impact on the metabolism and causes weight loss to be much more difficult. 11. Food ingredients: The reasons why are amazing and beyond the scope of this article. Simple Tips for Easy Weight Loss: Now that there is a better understanding of body genetics and why people have a tendency to be overweight, here are the tips for fast, easy weight loss. Tip #1: Drink water upon arising: First thing in the morning, drink eight ounces of distilled water, bottled water, or filtered water (not tap water). Tip #2: Eat a big breakfast: This should be done 45 minutes after getting up in the morning. Suggested organic foods to choose from (they must be organic) are apples, bananas, rye bread with no sugar, plain yogurt, tuna, lamb, tomatoes, carrots, peppers, raw honey, wild smoked salmon, and so on. Tip #3: Drink distilled water throughout the day: Eight glasses is recommended Tip #4: Walk non-stop one hour each day: This doesn't have to be power walking; just walk at your own pace. Walking outdoors is best. Tip #5: Stop eating after 6:00 PM: This is hard for some people, but do the best you can. Tip #6: Do a candida cleanse: Candida is yeast overgrowth in the colon that can cause all kinds of health problems. Check online for "Candida Cleanse" or go to your local health food store. Tip #7: Do a colon cleanse: This cleanse cleans out the digestive system, which is clogged and sluggish in many overweight people. Once again, check online or go to your local health food store. More and more Americans are becoming overweight. Extra weight can result in many health issues and negatively impact one's emotional state and self-esteem. However, for those struggling with this problem, there is hope. You can lose it and keep it off. Now that you have a understanding of body genetics and why you might be overweight, take action today! Commit to trying at least a few of the steps. Copyright © 2006 Prepaid Solutions

Is there a true home remedy for zits

Chances are if you’re one of the millions of people suffering from acne you’re also looking for that Holy Grail otherwise known as the zit home remedy. For many people with acne, a real life remedy that truly works to clear up their unsightly blemishes and allow them to achieve a healthy clear complexion would be worth paying for many times over. But the truth is there are several ways to treat zits and the associated blackheads that result from the acne without having to spend a fortune on voodoo methods that may or may not clear your skin up. Before I get to the treatments let’s step back and do a quick refresher on what acne is and how it’s caused. Acne is a result of clogged pores on the surface of your skin due to hair follicles that become entangled with the skin’s oil glands. There are many causes for this action-taking place with the scientific term labeling this emotionally disturbing event as a disease of the pilosebaceous units. A common myth is that poor hygiene results in acne. Sadly the truth is many people who are extremely well kept in terms of personal hygiene still suffer from acne and zits, which explains why they are looking for the perfect zit home remedy. Acne can affect many parts of the body with the face, chest and back regions the normal suspects. Additional acne related problems include papules, pustules (commonly referred to as pimples), nodules and cysts. Each is a major inconvenience to the individual suffering from these symptoms with the worst cases causing permanent scarring. Several other contributing factors to the onset of acne related symptoms include the puberty stage experienced by most male and females around the teenage years of their life. Heredity has also been proven to be an early indicator of whether or not you may suffer from acne – especially if your parents suffered at one time in their life. Although many people may use make-up and other cosmetics applied in heavy doses to hide zits and other acne blemishes they actually end up accelerating the problem, which leads to more pimples and zits. So where is the zit home remedy or cure all in this whole mess? If you watch television then you know all about the commercials supporting the latest zit fighting medicated pads. Odds are they are one of the following over the counter medications: Benzoyl Peroxide (most commercially popular acne medication), Salicylic Acid and Sulfur. Although these treatments have been proven to be effective as zit home remedy solutions they don’t meet the need of most modern day teenagers and that is a cure to acne in less then 24 hours. Research shows that even the best anti-acne over the counter medication can take up to as much as 8 weeks to completely treat acne related conditions. So as you can see although there really isn’t a fast way to cure acne there are several low cost over the counter acne fighting solutions that when combined with gentle cleaning and handling of the infected skin, careful shaving (especially for males) and cosmetics applied in a sensible nature can result in a cleaner, healthier complexion. A zit home remedy plan it’s not, but it can just make a difference in your fight against acne, zits and pimples.

Air pollution hikes stroke risk

The type of stroke that results when a blood clot travels to the brain -- called an ischemic stroke -- is more likely to occur on days when the air contains a larger concentration of particulate matter, according to a study published online in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association. Researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) examined air quality on a total of 37,000 days in nine cities. Risk of hospitalization for ischemic stroke was 1 percent higher on days with relatively high levels of air pollution, compared with low-air pollution days, reports lead author Gregory Wellenius, ScD, postdoctoral fellow in cardiology at BIDMC. Third Cause of Death in US "Although these effects sound relatively small," says Wellenius, "given the large number of people exposed to air pollution and the large number of people at risk for stroke ... the actual number of strokes could be significant." Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the US, affecting more than 700,000 individuals each year. A "consistent increased risk" for cardiac health problems associated with exposure to ambient air particles was established in earlier research by Wellenius and coauthors Murray Mittleman, MD, DrPH, of BIDMC's Cardiovascular Epidemiology Research Unit and Joel Schwartz, PhD, of HSPH. "Air pollution has been shown to trigger heart attacks and to aggravate the conditions of patients with congestive heart failure," says Mittleman, who is also an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. "These new findings, demonstrating that incidence of clot-based strokes also increase, [are] in keeping with our earlier data showing a relationship between air pollution and heart and lung disorders," he notes. The researchers also looked at the incidence of hemorrhagic stroke, which is caused by bleeding in the brain, during the same "high pollution" days, notes Wellenius, but found no association between the two. Reducing Exposure May Lower Risk The air pollution in question -- particulate matter smaller than 10 micrometers in diameter -- includes particles from car and truck exhaust, power plants and refineries. The measurements were provided by the US Environmental Protection Agency from nine US cities: Birmingham, Ala., Chicago, New Haven, Conn., Cleveland, Detroit, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City and Seattle. The authors analyzed hospital admissions among a group of Medicare patients with an average age of 79. Seventy-five percent of the patients were white, and 61 percent were female. Their findings showed that during the course of their study, there were 155,503 hospital admissions for ischemic stroke. The final analysis demonstrated a 1.03 percent rise in ischemic stroke on the days with the highest pollution measures. "We don't know exactly what mechanisms are involved that trigger these cardiac events," says Wellenius. "However, we do know that particulates in the air promote inflammation, which is a significant risk factor for cardiac events; that exposure to particulates can lead to changes in heart rate and blood pressure; and that pollution can cause changes in coaguable states (related to blood clotting abilities)." The authors say that future research will focus on finding out which pollutants are most toxic, as well as which patients are at greatest risk for health problems stemming from air pollution. "Taken together with previous work, these latest results support the idea that reducing exposure to particulate matter may reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks," they conclude. Boost the immune system the natural way part 2

Other than taking a decent amount of exercise and following a healthy diet, we may feel there is little we can do to help our bodies maintain themselves. However, it is possible to boost the immune system and encourage cell production through the use of supplements containing nucleotides – the body’s essential cell building blocks. The body has an ongoing demand for new cell production, and must create cells at the same rate at which its cells die. To do this, a typical cell must double its mass and duplicate all of its contents in order to produce the two new ‘daughter’ cells. This multiplication of a cell starts with the doubling of the information (inter-phase) - namely the DNA. Previously we discussed how the DNA is formed by the five key nucleotides. A normal DNA consists of 3 billion nucleotides. It is only after this multiplication of the DNA that the M-phase can start.

This is where the two cell nuclei are formed and the cells start to divide into two separate cells. Cell proliferation is a lengthy and complicated process, dependent mainly on energy and supply of the specific building blocks, the five key nucleotides. Research has shown that by providing extra dietary sources of nucleotides, the multiplication of these new cells can be speeded up. This applies to the following cell types: Intestinal mucosa cells – the cells lining the gut Bone marrow cells, namely leukocytes (especially Lymphocytes) – more commonly termed as the white blood immune cells Erythrocytes – Red blood cells Certain brain cells For years, nucleic acids and nucleotides were considered essential nutrients. Now these nucleotides are increasingly considered to be limiting in certain diets and during periods of stress and illness. It was thought that the body could synthesise sufficient nucleotides to meet its physiological demands via ‘de novo’ synthesis of nucleotides. However, research during the last several years indicates that this is not correct. There are certain conditions in which the body requires dietary nucleotides to meet its physiological requirements. These conditions include: Rapid growth Limited food supply Stress Chronic disease Bacterial and viral infections In these situations, metabolic demand exceeds the capacity of the ‘de novo’ synthesis, and therefore dietary nucleotides become conditionally essential. Importantly, dietary nucleotides may also spare the energetic costs of ‘de novo’ synthesis of nucleotides. Critical point in nutrition: energy Building nucleotides by the ‘de novo’ process requires lots of time and energy. Supplementing purified nucleotides to the diet reduces the proportions required to manufacture, while accelerating all active processes and saving energy also. Supplementary nucleotides have been demonstrated to enhance the efficiency of a number of vital organs; these include: Immune organs including the bone marrow Liver Intestines Consequently, supplementary nucleotides have an effect on a number of vital functions: Immunity Production of stress hormones Digestion and absorption of nutrients Vitality and well-being Focussing on Immunity Nucleotides are an essential part of an healthy immune system, because they have been shown to support the following: The reversal of malnutrition or starvation-induced immunosuppression Enhancement of T-cell maturation and function Enhancement of natural killer cell activity Increase of delayed cutaneous hypersensitivity Aiding resistance to infectious agents such as Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans Modulation of T-Cell responses toward type 1 CD4 helper lymphocytes or TH1 cells. In layman’s terms, nucleotides help to boost the immune system by speeding up the process of creating new defence cells, which are essential for the body to fight infections. Reducing the effect of an infection In 2003 a double-blind placebo controlled trial was carried out by Dr Isobel Davidson at Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh. This clinical trial was carried out to test the effects of nucleotides on reducing the severity of specific symptoms, secondary infections and healing time after a natural infection by the cold or flu virus. The findings showed that the specific formula of nucleotides significantly reduced the symptoms of painful sinuses and earache. Over the first six days of taking the nucleotides or a placebo, the discomfort level was on average greatly reduced for the nucleotide patients: Dry mouth: 30% less Sore throat: 20% less Muscle aches: 15% less Headache: 40% less Salivary IgA (antibody) concentrations were similar at recruitment, but the subsequent to this were higher in general for the nucleotide group. For the layman, higher antibody levels indicate a greater immune response. Preserving a strong immunity The positive effects of supplementary nucleotides on immunity was also backed up with another placebo controlled trial carried out by Professor Lars McNaughton, University of Bath, 2002. McNaughton tested the effects of nucleotides on athletes under both short-term and high intensity, and moderate endurance exercise. Again these results were significant and conclusive. Athletes on the nucleotide treatment showed a 25% higher IgA concentration after 90 minutes endurance exercise, compared with the placebo group. The stress hormone, cortisol, was 10% reduced for the nucleotide supplemented group. High cortisol levels have been shown to impede the effectiveness of disease fighting cells. Hence, the placebo group showed a greater drop in antibodies. High decreases in IgA (antibodies) are thought to be a reason for increased levels of Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (e. g. colds and flu) for athletes and people suffering high levels of stress. In conclusion, the body needs nucleotides to help support a healthy immune response. The body can normally take these from food, but in times of stress, illness, poor diet or rapid growth, dietary nucleotides become conditionally essential; supplementing all five nucleotides has been shown to preserve a strong immunity, and reduce the severity of infections. Can you still buy ephedra

With millions of people aiming for successful weight loss, many are still interested in diet pills and want to buy ephedra. Perhaps you are wondering...can I still buy ephedra? The answer is yes, you can still buy ephedra. Not all countries have placed bans on allowing people to buy ephedra. These countries may believe that ephedra is still useful for weight loss or other condition. Some countries, such as the United States, allow you buy ephedra as long as the active amount is limited to less than 10mg of pure ephedrine. In fact, the only place to order the pure form ephedra is though Ephedra Energy at EphedraEnergy. com People on weight loss programs still want to buy ephedra because it reduces appetite and stimulates fat metabolism, making it one of the most effective weight loss supplement in existence. Perhaps you want to buy ephedra because it increases the metabolic rate so that your body burns fats and sugars more efficiently. Do not buy ephedra if you are expecting a miracle cure by itself. For true weight loss success, don’t discount consuming natural foods with a high nutrient to calorie ratio and increasing your daily physical activity. With a balanced diet, exercise and ephedra as a supplement, not many people have reported lack of results. Ephedra is powerful enough to help you lose weight quickly, however, you cannot take ephedra forever. Once your optimal weight is achieved, the habit of a good diet and exercise are critical in maintaining that optimal weight level. There are some non-Ephedra pills you can try out free of charge as well. One I would recommend is NightDietPlus. com which can be taken before you go to bed and will not keep you up. It contains no caffeine or stimulants. I’ve actually tried them both. The NightDiet Plus is more subtle and the Ephedra is, quite powerful. Visit DietWeightLossNews. org for more information on ephedra and other diet products.

Clenbuterol the drug often touted as weight loss drug

Clenbuterol, a decongestant and bronchodilator, is often prescribed to the people suffering from breathing disorders. The patients of chronic breathing disorders, such as asthma, generally use Clenbuterol as a bronchodilator to help themselves to make their breathing easier. Commonly available in salt form as Clenbuterol hydrochloride, Clenbuterol is the drug that is often used by athletes and bodybuilders in order to retain lean muscle mass and reduce excessive fat. Often, the drug is used in very huge amounts because it helps in composition for increasing skeletal muscle mass by reducing body fat. Clenbuterol is advantageous drug as compared to its counterpart ephedrine, which does the same work but for shorter time period, as it doesn’t stay in the body more than 5-6 hours, but Clenbuterol on the other hand rests in the body for at least 24 hours. Thus, the people taking Clenbuterol need not take the drug every 5 hours. This is the reason that Clenbuterol is one of the most preferred drugs. One more advantage of Clenbuterol is that it doesn’t interfere with the sleep; it doesn’t have any effect on sleep. Clenbuterol is widely touted as a weight loss drug. It is being used as a mainstream dietary supplement. Thus, the drug is being extensively used by athletes, bodybuilders, and young people. However, the drug has more adverse effects than its benefits. Over use or abuse of Clenbuterol has been linked with a number of side effects and health risks. Some of the common side effects associated with the use of Clenbuterol include deepening of voice, thickening of skin and facial hair, etc. It can also cause heart problems like enlargement of ventricles, etc. The most annoying and weird thing about Clenbuterol is that it is used as an asthma medicine but it shows the reduced cardiovascular performance. Anxiety, shaking and sweating are also some of the side effects which are shown by the drug in some cases. Clenbuterol is available in the form of tablets, powders and syrups, and in an injectable form as well. The drug is not allowed to use in several countries. It is not a FDA approved drug and is banned in the United States. However, Clenbuterol is easily available online.

Weight loss the two words that guarantee success

Did you know that being successful with losing weight starts with just two words? Two words will either guarantee you'll lose weight, or guarantee the you WON'T lose weight. You see, words are very powerful. Especially the words that we say to ourselves... our self-talk.

Whatever we say to ourselves goes directly to our subconscious and is accepted as complete truth. Did you catch that? Whatever you say to yourself or others is accepted as a complete truth to your subconscious mind. How do you describe yourself? Do you see yourself as healthy, slim and energetic? Or do you see yourself as heavy and overweight? Do you tell yourself (or complain to others) that "you can't" lose weight? If you say to yourself....

"I am fat" ... your mind says OK, you're fat and gets to work in the background on taking actions that make (and keep) you fat. or "I am healthy and slim"... your mind says, OK, and gets to work in the background on taking actions that make (and keep) you healthy and slim. [Note: You literally can't lose weight if you see yourself as overweight... your mind won't let you. This is one reason so many struggle with losing weight... and keeping it off. ] Your subconscious doesn't argue with you, or reason with your statement. It just goes to work following your instructions. This one, small lifestyle change can make a difference between being successful in reaching your weight loss goals, and continual struggle to lose weight. It's simple, just replace your current thoughts and words with ones that support your "new" you starting with those two most important words, "I am": "I am healthy" "I am slim" "I am fit" "I am healthy and trim" "I am at my goal weight of (your goal) pounds" Saying "I am" gives your mind a statement and command in the affirmative... as if it were already true. Do this regularly, every day, and watch your thoughts and self talk closely. If you catch yourself slipping, immediately stop your negative thoughts and replace them with those above, or your own "I am" statements. Before you know it, your actions and results will start taking shape (literally :) ). It's a proven fact, your mind acts on what you tell it, just tell it what you want! You CAN do it!

Aromatherapy mother nature s treat for migraine headache sufferers

Nearly 18 percent of American women will suffer at least one migraine headache every year. These painful headaches are often accompanied by vomiting and nausea or visual symptoms such as flashing lights or dark circles in the field of vision. Migraine headaches are caused by expansion of the blood vessels in the head. This serious headache can be prevented by reducing stress. Stress can actually cause the expansion of blood vessels in the head which results in pain. Migraine headaches are usually treated with a number of chemical-based pain killers, with some causing minor side effects. Headache pain relief is usually attained by using over-the-counter headache pain relief medications that are so easily accessible.

However, these products don't permanently cure headaches and are not without side effects. Over time, any medication can lose its effectiveness if taken too frequently. Today, to avoid unnecessary side effects, many people are looking for natural alternatives to headache pain relief medications. One of the most popular, and successful, natural headache remedies has to be aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is the art of using essential oils. It has been practiced for thousands of years. The liquids are distilled from plant materials to encourage better health as well as a feeling of well-being. Aromatics can be used while performing a soothing massage or by simply inhaling them. In fact, aromatherapy is now a popular and accepted form of alternative treatment for headaches.

Essential oils such as Chamomile, Rosemary, Peppermint and Lavender are used to treat symptoms of headaches. There are combinations of these that also work very well, but it must have the exact right amounts or recipe. Essential oils are an inexpensive method of dealing with headache pain. They can be purchased at a local health store. There are a few methods by which the use of essential oils can help cure headache. One way is to put two drops of lavender on each temple and rest. Many people find that after about twenty minutes, their headache is gone. Another method using lavender is to take a facecloth and make it into a compress that is first dipped in hot or cold water that contains at least five drops of lavender.

The compress is placed on either the neck or forehead while resting. There are other methods of using aromatherapy for migraine headaches. It can be used as a diffuser. This puts the scent into the air. It can be used for about fifteen to twenty minutes at a time. The other alternative is to use the aromatherapy by inhaling it. However, this is not recommended for someone with a respiratory condition like asthma. The essential oil from ginger is useful in fighting the nausea of migraine headaches. If a migraine sufferer is going to try these natural methods, they have to research carefully on how much they should use. Even something natural like aromatic oil must be used in moderation. Different natural headache remedies work for different people, so one needs to experiment to find out which ones suit the person best. If a person has recurring headaches or their migraine attacks are very painful, it is best to consult with a doctor.

The skinny on anorexia

Because of mass media’s rising campaign on beauty products and weight-loss products, people have been given the idea that they need to be appearance-conscious to get noticed. And with a lot of skinny celebrities and models in the media spotlight, it gives people a misconception that being skinny is synonymous to being beautiful. And because of this misconception that a lot of women become obsessed in losing weight, by any means necessary, be it naturally or not. An alarming emergence in eating disorders Eating disorders have become increasingly prevalent in western countries because of a drastic change in the feminine body ideal towards thinness. An estimated five to ten percent of girls and women, an approximated five to ten million people, and a million boys and men suffer from eating disorders. Among these eating disorders are anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and other dietary conditions. An estimated fifteen percent of young women adopt unhealthy eating habits and behaviours about food. Anorexia Nervosa Anorexia is the second most common eating disorder. Anorexia and bulimia nervosa are common in terms of having an intense fear of becoming fat or even just to be perceived as fat. However anorexia differs in the sense that anorexic people starve themselves to lose weight, on the other hand people with bulimia eat to their hearts content and then purge by forcing themselves to vomit. Anorexia and other eating disorders usually start during early adolescence. People with anorexia nervosa often do a good job at hiding their eating disorder until the side effects have become prominent. And anorexic people also have a tendency to deny that something is wrong with them, that they’re already finished eating, or that they’re not hungry at the moment. They also keep insisting that they need to lose more weight. Anorexia and other eating disorders may have stemmed from a misunderstanding of a wide range of social influences that dictate for women to be skinny and imitate supermodel looks. Or sometimes it may be self-inflicted as a way of refusing to enter puberty. Some experts relate having low self-esteem, loneliness, a history of abuse, peer pressure, inferiority complex, and perfectionism as triggers of such conditions. Side effects Side effects are mainly classified into psychological, social and physical. Physical side effects may come as a result from lack of nutrition from very little food intake, this may put serious strain on a lot of the body’s major organs. Anorexia may also cause psychological side effects, changing the way a person thinks, giving anorexics a distorted view on things. Physical side effects: Fatigue and loss of energy Hypotension (low blood pressure) Dizziness due to low blood pressure Fine hair growth on body (lanugo hair) Hair loss Pins and needles (parathesia due to changes in the peripheral changes in the nervous system) Brittle nails and fragile bones due to low calcium Increased vulnerability to osteoporosis Anaemia and pale skin due to low iron levels Easy bruising Cramps Ulcers Susceptibility to cold due to loss of insulation Edema (tissue swelling from water) due to electrolyte imbalances Cessation of menstruation Strain on most of the bodies organs Thyroid dysfunction Irregularity in the secretion of growth hormone Potential kidney failure Urinary tract infections Chronic indigestion Potential liver failure Osteoporosis Psychological side effects: Low self esteem and loss of confidence Feelings of being ineffective and powerless Fear of losing control Mood swings Irritability Anxiety and depression Loneliness Feelings of being worthless Now that you understand what anorexia is all about, it will be easier to look out for tell-tale signs of the disease. Of course the best way to prevent this condition is to educate your kids early of proper nutrition and showing them a healthy attitude towards food. Of course, the best way to educate is to lead by being an example to your children. After all, if your kids see you eating healthy, what are the chances that they would develop an unhealthy eating habit?

Another controversial decision for

Gnarled knuckles. Mangled fingers. Lame handshakes. Sore and swollen wrists. They are the signatures of battle commonly found on the hands of boxers and Floyd Mayweather knows the pain all too well. Mayweather, a fast and explosive boxer dances and pounces at the boxing ring better than most top caliber fighters in the ring. As the owner of the Junior Welterweight title, Mayweather has most pundits calling him, pound for pound, 2005's best boxer. Born on February 24, 1977, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Floyd Jr. has boxing in his blood. His father, Floyd Sr., fought Sugar Ray Leonard in the late '70s, while his uncle Roger was a Junior Lightweight and Super Lightweight champion. It was no surprise then, that Floyd Jr. showed an aptitude for boxing from a very young age. When he had received enough training from his dad and uncle, Floyd entered the world of amateur boxing as an adolescent. Fighting at 126 pounds, Mayweather put together an amazing 84-6 record as an amateur, winning Golden Gloves championships in 1993, 1994, and 1996. Mayweather made the Olympic team in 1996 and at the Atlanta Olympics, he beat boxers from Kazakhstan, Armenia and Cuba before falling to a Bulgarian in a highly controversial semi-final bout. Mayweather had to settle for the bronze medal. Last December 9, Mayweather Jr. defeated Great Britain's Ricky Hatton in the 10th round of their World Boxing Council welterweight title fight in Las Vegas. During pre-bout interviews, Mayweather has repeatedly denied that his hands might cause him a problem. Hatton himself is concerned that Mayweather may use his hands as an excuse if he loses his title. However, his camp agreed that the priority was to prevent the American from any illegal advantage using the controversial pain relief medication. The Hattons maintained their focus on this issue at another prebout meeting when they wanted to ensure that Mayweather would not be able to protect his hands with an unfair use of tape and lidocaine. However, the Mayweathers are unhappy that lidocaine has been specifically identified as a drug that cannot be used. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic (numbing medication). It produces pain relief by blocking the signals at the nerve endings in the skin. Lidocaine topical systems are used for pain relief and for managing discomfort associated with herpes zoster virus infection of the skin (shingles). Mayweather’s hand problems have been long documented but they resurfaced in an edition of a television documentary that showed the boxer having a wax paraffin treatment and quietly acknowledging the issue. However, with all the controversy and trash talks that surrounded their title bout, Mayweather still managed to beat his opponent. Fight veterans such as Mayweather and Hatton, have struggled over the years to keep their hands healthy, a problem that is shared by many boxers. Some of those fighters are resorting to expensive pain relief drugs and, if necessary, undergo an intricate surgical procedure to restore the strength of their hands. While the boxers try to explore all options to remove pain from their bread-winning hands and knuckles, boxing officials are still in hot debate about whether existing rules should be changed regarding the use of anesthetics in a sport that has been hounded by drug and steroid scandals for many years.

The attack of the nerds bullying in cyberspace

We are all familiar with the stereotypical image of the school bully tormenting all of his or her classmates. This can be the cause of increased levels of anxiety and stress among its victims. But with the advent of the Internet comes a different kind of bullying called cyber-bullying. Cyber-bullying, also referred to as electronic bullying, can be defined as the repetitive and willful harassment through the use of the Internet, mobile phones or other forms of interactive and/or digital communication, usually with the intent to humiliate, torment and threaten an individual in order to assert the perpetrator's power over the victim. This kind of bullying is limited to children, pre-teens and teenagers.

If a similar type of aggressive behavior happens to an adult, it is labeled as cyber-harassment or cyber-stalking. All forms of cyber-bullying can be classified as a computer crime punishable by law. Unfortunately, unlike traditional bullying, cyber-bullying is difficult if not impossible to trace. This is because the youthful perpetrator can remain anonymous online, supply false identifying information or constantly change online personas. According to a 2005 study, cyber-bullying can take different forms, such as sending mean, vulgar, or threatening messages or images; posting sensitive, private information about another person; pretending to be someone else in order to make that person look bad; and/or intentionally excluding someone from an online group. This is usually done through e-mails, instant messaging (IM), text or digital imaging messages sent on cell phones, web pages, web logs (blogs), chat rooms or discussion groups, and other information communication technologies. Traditional bullying is distressing enough; however, cyber-bullying is even more terrifying because the harassment can occur continuously at any time of the day or night, with the messages and images distributed quickly to a very wide audience. With the advent of camera phones, perpetrators can take pictures of their intended victim in compromising positions and post it on the Internet. Examples of these can be seen in websites such as YouTube which allows members to post pictures and videos online and subsequently viewed and downloaded worldwide.

It may also be circulated through e-mails in the form of attachments. This increases the humiliation felt by the victim, often heightening the stress and anxiety they feel. Research suggests that more girls are victims and perpetrators of cyber-bullying. Experts suggest that this is because of the passive-aggressive nature of the crime. Unlike boys who can often express these feelings in physical outlets, girls are denied the same privilege for their feelings of anger and aggression for fear of being seen as unfeminine. While cyber-bullying can be violent, this violence is mostly non-confrontational and non-physical, and can be carried out regardless of the size or age difference between the victim and the perpetrator. What matters in this case is the particular expertise in using these information communication technologies. So now, the stereotypical nerd can bully those that may be physically bigger or stronger than they are because they are more technologically-savvy.

Although most victims can opt to ignore the bullying, this will not work for all cases. Unfortunately, because of the nature of the Internet, publishing or posting a defamatory pictures or statements against the victim is extremely difficult to prevent, and these can be viewed or downloaded until it is taken down. Other options would be to change the victim's email address and/or mobile phone number.
