An introduction to online colleges

Online colleges make obtaining a degree a possibility for anyone with access to the internet. If you have always dreamt of obtaining a degree or other certificate then online colleges are a great way to make that dream come true. One of the main benefits of studying with online colleges rather than conventional campus-based colleges is that you can work on your chosen subject at your own pace and at a time that suits you. Instead of having to attend classes and lectures you can fit your study in around work and family commitments. In particular, many stay-at-home moms are finding that online colleges offer course that they can take while the kids are at school in preparation for returning to work when the kids are older. Many employees are overlooked for promotion at work because they lack formal qualifications but this is where online colleges come in. Instead of having to take time off work to be able to attend a regular college you can continue working your normal hours and access your course in your free time. If you have been with a company for a while and see no opportunity for advancement you can also study with any of the online colleges to enable you to find a new job whilst you are still earning. Online colleges offer a wide range of course and have no time restriction in which you have to complete the modules. This gives you the freedom to study where and when you want to and a number of online colleges will allow you to take lengthy study breaks. Some courses do not require a formal exam at the end to obtain a diploma but consist of a number of assignments that are to be completed throughout the course.

Most online colleges have specialist tutors who can communicate with the students by email or other means to give support and guidance to them throughout the course. Quite often the online colleges will also have facilities to link students with each other so that they can discuss assignments. There are online colleges based all around the globe and there are usually no residency restrictions applied. If you want to learn about French art then why not choose one of the online colleges based in France or one of the many Japanese online colleges to obtain a certificate in business management techniques then you can. Finding the right course is the easy part but deciding which of the online colleges you want to study it with is probably going to be the hardest choice to make. This is because there are literally millions of courses available through online colleges around the globe.

The fun of learning the hawaiian language

The Hawaiian language is an Austronesian (or Polynesian) language that is the ancestral tongue of the Hawaiian Islands, which lie in the Pacific Ocean. The Hawaiian language is the official language of the State of Hawaii. It is an endangered language, meaning that it is no longer spoken officially on any of the populated Hawaiian Islands. The native language was supplanted by English many years ago. There is one Hawaiian Island, Ni’ihau, where the Hawaiian language is still predominantly spoken. This island is privately owned, and tourism there is rejected in favor of a traditional way of life for its inhabitants. Though English is spoken by Hawaiians in order to conduct business and for political and educational purposes, the Hawaiian language remains in the souls and memories of all native Hawaiians, and connects them to their heritage. Thousands of people travel to the island paradise of Hawaii every year. It’s beautiful beaches, terrific surfing, and breathtaking vistas make Hawaii one of the most common vacation spots on the Earth.

The residents of the islands share a real sense of history and community, and consider themselves to be ‘ohana, or family, with one another. Hawaiians love to share their interesting history, vibrant culture, and the beautiful poetry of the Hawaiian language with visitors. When visitors arrive on the Islands, they are often greeted by native Hawaiian ladies who present new guests with a kiss on each cheek, a friendly “aloha!” and a beautiful and fragrant lei, or garland of indigenous flowers from the Islands. Today, there are many words from the Hawaiian language that are still used conversationally and informally by the Islands’ inhabitants.

We all know the word “aloha”, which has a myriad of meanings including hello, goodbye, and love. There is also hula, which is a very common Hawaiian dance that you often see at lu’aus, or traditional Hawaiian feasts, where ukulele music is played along to meles (traditional songs and chants), and tradition Hawaiian foods such as poi are served. Today, the Hawaiian language is enjoying a resurgence in popularity. Native Hawaiians looking to reconnect with their ancestral pasts are learning the traditional native tongue. And children are also being educated in the Hawaiian language, as a means of teaching them the history and legacy of their people. The Hawaiian language is being taught in public schools on the Islands as a second language alongside English. For tourists, there are Hawaiian language books available that can provide lessons in the basic Hawaiian language.

Also, computer software can provide a fun and interactive experience for a person who is interested in learning the native tongue of the Hawaiian Islands before embarking on a vacation there. There are also websites available that offer free, accelerated lessons in Hawaiian. Learning the basics of a language like Hawaiian will provide tourists with an opportunity to gain more understanding of a fascinating culture that thrives still today. Though there will not be any real language barriers for tourists when they visit Hawaii, learning some of the ancestral language will also serve as a history lesson, which will allow tourists to appreciate the culture that they are being exposed to so much more. Traveling to the tropical paradise that is the Hawaiian Islands is a chance of a lifetime. Experiencing the sights, the sounds, the people, and the exotic surroundings is likely to broaden anyone’s scope of the world. Though the Hawaiian language is not widely spoken any longer, its concepts remain in the hearts and souls of the people who inhabit the idyllic and ancient oasis, and they relish the opportunity to welcome their visitors in the true spirit of ‘ohana.

Are online degrees valid to prospective employers

Online distance learning has gained rapid popularity with the advent of the internet, which has proven to offer great supporting facilities and convenience for online education. However, just like everything else with pros and cons, the internet has also opened doors for the widespread sale of bogus online degrees. According a report by USA Today, there were already 400 diploma mills in the year 2003 and the numbers are rising. In fact, many of these unscrupulous operations are run by organizations in an industry that is worth $500 million a year. However, amidst the negative hype about online education, there are actually many distance learning colleges offering valid degrees and diplomas. These institutions do not sell bogus certificates, but actually aim to provide quality education as alternatives for on-campus higher education. Valid online courses with online video lectures as well as online library facilities and test examinations conducted are often deployed to ensure that students truly qualify in their areas of study and graduate legitimately. Sadly though, many employers only see the negative side of things, and easily brush off online education degrees as equivalent to bogus degrees. In view of the confusion, the National Education Board of the U. S. government has authorized 6 accreditation agencies to provide institutional accreditation to education institutions, as a measure to differentiate legitimate universities from the crooks. This means that students choosing their universities will be assured that these universities would have met minimum criteria set forth by these agencies for learning institutions.

Additionally, there is also The Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) which provides accreditation specifically for distance learning institutions. The DETC is an accreditation agency that is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Furthermore, there is also specialized accreditation for specific programs of different areas of specialization. These programs which are found to have attained excellence will be awarded accreditation by various professional accrediting agencies depending on the area of specialization. For instance, the International Association for Management Education (AACSB) gives accreditation to accounting related programs while health programs are accredited by the American Health Information Management Association.

It is also important to know that only accreditation agencies recognized by the Department of Education or CHEA are considered accreditation agencies which are acknowledged. What does accreditation mean to a student? An institutional accreditation agency evaluates the various aspects of universities or colleges against minimum standard criteria to determine if the particular institution meets their list of basic requirements. College accreditation is necessary to ensure that the education, facilities and support provided by a college or university adheres to basic levels. On the other hand, specialized accreditation evaluates excellence in individual program regardless of which institution the program is being delivered within. In this type of accreditation, course content and program curricula is evaluated against pre-set standards of the institution. All accreditation does is to assure employers, students and parents that the graduates who are awarded degrees from accredited colleges have undergone adequate training in their respective areas of specialization. This also means that colleges that are not accredited by the proper accreditation body would not have met the standards imposed by the agencies. However, courses taken by prospective employees that are accredited by the respective agencies would have met standards imposed on the respective specialized areas.

It is totally up to the judgment and decision of the employers on evaluating the validity of an online or on-campus degree. With the recent hike in bogus degrees, employers can’t help but be stringent in their applicant screenings and consider those with degrees that have been accredited. This may prove tedious and sometimes employers may get confused. Therefore, if your accreditation is provided by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education, then you will need to explain to prospective employers on the background of the accrediting bodies. This way, you can avoid employers from sidelining your application based on something that they may be unclear about and increase your chances of being short listed for a job interview.

Several tips to finding the right school fast

Pilgrim trivia teaching tips

How much do you know about the Mayflower, Pilgrims, and Wampanoag Indians? Here are some interesting facts about them. Before the Pilgrims hired her, the Mayflower was in the wine trade with France; before that, she was in the fish trade with Norway. It took the Mayflower 66 days to reach Massachusetts. There was one baby born during the crossing of the Mayflower and he was named Oceanus Hopkins.

The Pilgrims landed at Provincetown, MA, at the tip of Cape Cod, on November 11, 1620. Since the land was not good for farming, they moved to Plymouth. To eat, the Pilgrims used a knife, spoon, a large napkin, and fingers...no forks. They also shared plates and drinking vessels. In the Pilgrim household, the adults sat down to dinner and the children waited on them. Lobsters, clams, and mussels were considered "hard rations" when the food supply was low. Many Pilgrims thought that lobsters were fit only for pigs! The turkey was familiar poultry in England.

It was brought to Europe 100 years earlier by the Spanish. There were only four married women who survived the first harsh winter from 1620-1621. They supervised the food preparations for the three-day harvest feast for the 50 colonists, Chief Massasoit, and the 90 Indians who attended. That event became known as "the first Thanksgiving." Pumpkin pie and cranberry sauce were not eaten at the first Thanksgiving. The Pilgrims did eat roast wild fowl such as duck, goose, and turkey; corn meal; cod; sea bass; and venison brought by the Indians. Massasoit in the Wampanoag language means "Great Leader." His real name was Ousamequin or "Yellow Feather." The Wampanoag Indians of southeast Massachusetts were the people who befriended the Pilgrims. Their name means "People of the Dawn" and they continue to live on Cape Cod, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and inland. With the severe weather the world has been experiencing, now is a good time to reflect on all the positives in your life. Write them down to keep as a reference when times are rough! Sometimes, seeing them in print is an eye-opener; you might be surprised how long that list can get if you add all the little things. HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone! I hope these ideas have been useful and have inspired your own creative thinking. And remember...Reading is FUNdamental!

How distance learning offers flexible opportunities

The opportunities for continuing education are incredibly diverse, thanks to the technology of distance learning and elearning. Because of the sheer number of people who are looking to improve themselves, it was inevitable that a large number of colleges, universities and businesses set out to fill that need. The result is that people are learning new skills, honing talents and reaching goals, all while going on with their lives. For many people, furthering education and attending classes are limited because they are already involved in their adult lives. Jobs, family obligations and other responsibilities limit the amount of time many people have available to devote to their own education. Distance learning allows thousands of people to achieve degrees from programs hundreds of miles away.

In this day of convenient travel options, it might be tempting to say that anyone can attend college or classes anywhere. Despite our mobile economy, many people simply don't want to move and don't have the time to travel great distances to attend classes. That means that their opportunities are limited to the programs that are offered nearby. Until distance learning and elearning became so widely available. Briefly, the difference between distance learning and elearning is a matter of how the course is structured. Distance learning requires that the student attend classes at a prearranged time on a regular basis. An instructor who is actually teaching in another facility (across the state or across the nation) lectures makes assignments and teaches just as normal.

The students in the satellite facility have the opportunity to interact with the teacher through two-way communications. The major advantage is that students are attending class right in their own neighborhoods, at community colleges, universities, schools and even public facilities instead of traveling to the site where the teacher is actually conducting class. Compared to distance learning, elearning is even less structured. Typically, students work at their own pace through online courses. There may be pre-recorded lectures, worksheets, assignments and tests, all viewed and completed online.

The major advantage here is that students have an even more flexible attendance policy and can choose to work through the material as quickly or as slowly as they want, though some courses do have time limits for completion. When you add it all up, both distance learning and elearning offer opportunities that simply wouldn't be available any other way. People who would otherwise be "stuck" with no way to further their educations now have an option. Find out why distance learning lets anyone go back to school. Then there are those students who graduate college with that added bonus: a stack of student loans. While searching for the ultimate job, the last thing a student needs is worrying about how to pay off a ton of student loans. Student Loan Consolidation in One Simple Payment It would make life so much easier to pay one student loan bill instead of five, six, seven or even eight – sometimes more! After graduation there’s so much to think about: finding the ultimate job, finding a place to live, and figuring out how to pay for everything. Thinking about paying monthly student loan bills certainly will not make life easy or happy. No one enjoys paying bills. The task becomes even worse and more stressful when there are piles of bills to pay. By consolidating student loans life will get easier and payments might be lower. Fast Track to Student Loan Consolidation Consolidation isn’t a foreign word and it’s not too big of a word to understand. Consolidation is easy. It combines all of a student’s loans into one payment. It’s that simple. It’s easy as pie and will let you breathe easier too. Student loan consolidation is convenient and allows you to combine all your loans. In addition, consolidation is no longer only geared toward federal loans. Now students also can consolidate their private loans. The Time is Now for Student Loan Consolidation There’s no time like the present to consolidate outstanding student loans. Even though interest rates on federal student loans were at their lowest from July 1, 2004 to July 1, 2005, it’s still a great time to combine student loans. The rates most likely will increase in July 2006, so consolidating now is a bright idea. Federal student loan consolidation can be as low as 4.75 percent. Private student loan consolidation depends on the lender, and the borrower’s credit. Students who have multiple student loans oftentimes are inundated with varying interest rates and repayment terms. Getting it all in order every month can prove to be a literal nightmare. Student Loan Consolidation Incentives With federal student loan consolidation, rates are fixed. Students also can take advantage of deferment, forbearance and cancellation options. Another highlight of student loan consolidation is the extension of payments. Many students find they can extend a 10-year repayment plan to as long as 30 years. This depends on a borrower’s balance, so it’s important to check out the options. Student loan consolidation offers students the same interest rate on the same amount, but for a longer term, hence better affordability. There are so many good reasons to get on the road to student loan consolidation. By taking a stack of student loan bills and combining them into one, it’s like a magic trick. All about the mattress

Those of us who think that mattresses are just something to plunk ourselves on and while away the night, couldn’t be more wrong. We simply might have to rethink again. The fact is that we spend one-fourth of our lives in bed and what should demand our maximum attention often goes unnoticed - for example the mattress that we sleep on. We make the mistake of undermining the importance of mattresses by considering them to be just another part of our furniture. But this is not so. A bad mattress can be worse than the cavity in your tooth. It can cause spinal problems, muscles aches and sleep problems. The net result would be a stressed head over an equally unhealthy body. So be very careful about choosing the mattress where you will be spending a good proportion of your life. There are different types of mattresses available in the market today and what we decide to buy depends solely on our needs and specifications. For some foam mattresses might be the ideal choice while you may find others swearing by a spring mattress. Waterbeds and airbeds are other popular form of mattresses with their own set of merits and demerits to follow. The reason why people don’t prefer air - beds is because they are designed for temporary sleeping rather than daily usage. Its good to have an air mattress around when you are out camping or if you have guests over at your place. As for the water – beds, they aren’t considered to be very practical either because of the weight that they carry. Many homes are not designed to take the weight of a waterbed in one place. A very popular myth running amongst most people is that hard mattresses are better in comparison to the softer ones. But this is not necessarily true. What is more important is the consistency of the surface of the mattress. The mattress should not cause pressure points in your body and leave you feeling sore. It should feel comfortable and should be in alignment with your spine so as to avoid any unwanted pressure on your other muscles and body parts. What Is The Right Time To Change Your Mattress? It is very essential for the user to know when his mattress needs to be replaced. Sometimes the regular use of the mattress might leave behind the impression of your body on it. In such cases you should try rotating or turning your mattress every three months at the least. Moreover the most important signal that your mattress might give you will be its inability to help you in a good night’s sleep. That’s right - when you start feeling uncomfortable in your old mattress or if you get up every morning with a sore back you can be sure that your mattress is desperately crying out for its retirement. If you are prepared to buy a new replacement for your mattress be sure to check it out for yourself. Lie down on it and see if you are comfortable enough. If it meets both your price as well as comfort level then you can be sure that you have made the right choice!

How is learning chinese writing different from learning a western language

In the modern Chinese writing system, each character is a form of its own, representing a particular sound and at least one meaning. In other words, each Chinese symbol is a unity of form, sound and meaning. To learn Chinese writing, you need to know each Chinese symbol or character individually. You will need a vocabulary of at least 3,000 characters to understand 90% of what you read. A vocabulary of 4-5,000 characters allows you to understand almost everything written in Chinese in the modern context. Although there are more than 60,000 characters listed in the largest Chinese dictionaries most of them are ancient symbols and no longer in use. Only a very small proportion of Chinese characters - some 300, perhaps - are simple representations of natural objects; all others are composite signs. Each sign generally has two components: a graphic component (which represent a man, woman, tree etc.) and a phonetic component, which gives some idea of the pronunciation. Learning Chinese writing is quite different from learning a Western language. To learn a Western language like English, you need to know a whole series of sounds. If you take an English word apart, separating it into its many phonetic syllables, it would lose its meaning altogether. In learn Chinese writing, you first learn the characters and then you learn the word. Take, for instance, the Chinese word da4 xue2 大学 which means "university". First you learn da4 “big” and xue2 “school; learn” separately. Although the meaning of da xue has to do with da and xue, it is not a simple case of da ”big” plus xue ”school”. It does not mean "big school". If you were to take the English word “university” and try to figure out its meaning based on the meanings of the five syllabic components u/ni/ver/sit/ty, you would not understand anything because they mean nothing. So, the Chinese character forms the basis in learning Chinese writing whereas the word or sentence forms the basis for learning a Western language. In Chinese writing, the symbol is the unit carrier of meaning whereas in English it is the word which serves the same purpose. Chinese characters are essentially pictures and they appeal to the eye. In comparison, Western letters and words are based on sound rather than sight.

Why college degrees

Formal education is one of those things that have become a part of our culture. It is nesecary and it is a prerequisites when applying for a job. Education to some extent, helps people get aquanted to and better experienced in the field which they are pursuing. It happens when a "union" creates a curriculum to educate people, most of the time it is the youth. Formal education has become very systematic and well planned. It is used to promote principles and values as well as knowledge, and this can sometimes lead to abuse of the system. Education has made the very core of our society it helps everybody who graduates, and teaches them the basics in life, something for them to build on. Although education is an excellent thing, one of the problems is that people who graduate have formed a box... an envelope to think in. Myself as a computer technician, student pilot, & student of life, am always looking for ways to push the envelope. Education started very early for me. I never attended gred school and was though the O-Levels by my father. Soon after I enrolled into college and a year later had completed my diploma. I was 14. My dad has always told me that education never ends. And no matter what we do or which industry we work in, we will always need to adapt to the changes as they come, this means we need to learn quickly. This does not mean we go out and get another college degree, instead it means that we must always have the ability to learn and not become close-minded. Many of you have heard of a story which goes along the lines of: a guy working in a company for many many years and has climmed through the ranks and finally reached the his goal, then some young guy comes along with the ability to make good changes, and suddenly the old guy finds himself being replaced. This does not nessesaryli mean the old guy was not doing a good job, it just means there was another guy doing a better job. The goal here is to stay open-minded and willing to learn new techniques to stay ahead of the competition and to always learn. Now all of us are bound to phase out some time or another, the point is to be at the top of our job, as long as we are capable. My grandfather once told me that no matter what you lean or where you learn it from, the knowledge that will matter the most and make the most difference is the knowledge aquired by experience, because it sticks.

School shootings aren t caused by the type of student that the media tells you about

Teachers, principals and counselors: As most of you are aware, some of the recent school shootings were apparently committed by students who were not known for their acting - out behaviors, but instead for their relatively quiet withdrawal and depression. We have gotten quite a few calls asking for explanations. Youth professionals are often more accustomed to preventing and addressing violence from acting-out youth, and may feel less prepared to prevent or address violence from other types of youth. Here are some of the questions we have been receiving at our office and in our workshop: Question: Why are some depressed, withdrawn kids becoming suddenly violent? Answer: Perhaps some of these kids are like pressure cookers that build up so much steam that they literally explode. Many professionals are used to seeing serious youth depression that includes withdrawal, lethargy, reduced verbiage, reduced activity levels, self-harm and/or threats of self-harm, and comments reflecting hopelessness and despair. But, some depressed youngsters may explode out of that "acting-in" into serious acting-out. Question: Our staff has had a lot of training on preventing and managing violence by acting - out students such as conduct disorders. Is there much difference working with students who normally act in? Answer: Yes, it is almost a completely different process. Perhaps the two most compelling difference are these: First, there may be fewer overt cues to help you spot the acting-in student before the violence occurs. Second, the way you work with the two sets of students should be completely different. So, no, you can't just extrapolate your training on conduct disordered youth, for example, to depressed students. Question: How does my school or agency know if we are prepared as best as possible to avoid serious violence from acting-in students? Answer: Your staff should be able to identify at least three types of students who may be at highest risk of extreme violence, and how they must work differently with each type. There is no substitute for gaining a more sophisticated understanding of your different populations and also learning which tools to use with each type of youth. Question: Some states are now considering laws that will mandate how schools discipline bullies. Will that be a big help? Answer: Not necessarily. Your depressed student doesn't always blow up over one single problem like being harassed by peers. A better solution might be to educate youth professionals to understand how the peer harassment affects the vulnerable youngster, but also teach all about that student, not just this one element. It is unlikely that there is a quick and simple fix to the serious and complex emotional problems that developed over the entire child's lifetime. The better solution would be to ensure that all youth professionals have a complete and sophisticated understanding of their different types of kids. Professional development classes like ours' are designed to efficiently do that. There may not be any easy shortcuts or bypasses to updating staff skills. Question: So stopping bullying is not the whole answer to stopping serious violence by acting - in students? Answer: That is correct. While it is a definite help, remember that it doesn't always take a "big thing" to set these kids off. Sometimes, the triggering event can be as simple as "that girl didn't look at me." Unfortunately, "the straw that broke the camel's back" phenomenon can often occur. Question: Can you list at least a few key do's and don't's on preventing violence with depressed youth? Answer: This list is absolutely no substitute for a thorough understanding. Some DON'Ts: Don't add to their burdens; Don't permit them to face unnecessary problems like endless peer harassment; Don't ignore the often quiet signs of major depression (many are noted above); Don't pressure them; Don't forget about them-- the quiet ones so often go unnoticed. Some DO's: Do involve them in talking out problems to avoid building up problems; Do involve them in exercise; Do have them evaluated for anti-depressant medication; Do teach them coping and social skills (including peer interaction skills); Do build a strong bond; and, in the words of one depressed youth, Do "make it safe, make it okay." Want more information on depressed youth and violence? This isn't a topic that is widely covered-- especially if you are seeking practical tools, not just theory. The fastest, most thorough solution we know about is our Breakthrough Strategies Workshop (live or on tape). It is a very thorough resource that puts you in the depressed child's world, and gives you specific do's and don't's. It would hopefully reduce the "guess work" and guide you through your interactions with this student. Visit http:// youthchg. com/live. html for more info.

School bullying stopped don t be fooled by the smoke screen

School bullies are manipulators. They are masters at confusing students as well as adults. But with these masters of manipulation, we must always look at the big picture! Hardcore bullies will often try to confuse the issue when being confronted with their bullying behavior. They will blame their victim for the incident that happened between them. They will bring up small transgressions that the victim may have made and try to make them seem huge. For example, maybe the victim told them to “Shut Up” and the hardcore bully will make this seem like a huge insult the him or her when in reality the hardcore bully has threatened or cursed at the victim, and the victim was just trying to defend himself or herself. This Smoke Screen technique is one of the hardcore bullies most successful deflecting attempts because it is easy for school staff to get caught up in the details of the incident at hand.

And, the hardcore bullies are experts at throwing up the smoke screen. But through much success and failure at working to resolve the bullying situation, I force myself to look at the big picture with the hardcore bully and not be deflected by the smoke screen. In other words, I look at the overall pattern and large number incidents the hardcore bully has participated in vs. the small number of incidents the victim has been involved in – if any. I don’t give the bully a clean slate in every incident – I believe the best way to stop bullying is to deal with it on a cumulative level – not each incident individually. Hardcore bullies are experts at throwing up a smoke screen and making a “mountain out of a molehill” when they have been wronged but minimizing any wrong that they may have done to another student.

But, now you will be able to see through the “haze.” Paula McCoach invites you to subscribe to the Bully Zapper Newsletter published weekly with tons of tips on how to effectively deal with bullies in elementary and middle school. Some straight talk about career training

Let’s cut to the chase…a career training program is crucial when you want to build a career. Making a decision on a career is one of the most difficult decisions in life. First of all you decide on a profession and then gain admission for the relevant career training program. A number of aspects come into consideration while selecting a career. You may be good at a certain subject and want to build a career on that. But the reality is every subject does not provide enough prospects and money. So you should choose a profession in which you can do well monetarily and where you will have job satisfaction. So, what exactly can a career training program do for you? 1. Career training programs groom your raw talent on the subject of your choice and transform you into a professional. 2. Career training programs train you to be perfect for the job. 3. Career training teaches you discipline because most training programs are rigorous. A lot of thought goes into the creation of the course matter and it is created systematically. Yes, a course is a just a series of educative lessons and each course has a distinct subject. For example, if you want to become a sales manager then you have to get training. First you gain admission to the school of your choice. In the school you will find an array of specialized courses, like sales management, human resource management, etc. You choose the ideal one according to your likes and strength. The course or class is designed in such a way that you can understand the material easily. Classes help you to understand the subjects of the course properly and guide you all the way to matriculation. After successfully completing the course you will be able to work independently. A career is a gradual development in your professional life. From a very young age we take our careers seriously. Because everyone wants to be successful in life and monetary success in life depends on the career path chosen. A good career not only puts money in our bank account but also helps us garner respect at the work place and in society. In the professional fraternity, the competition for advancement is fierce. You need to have some competitive advantage over your competitor to excel in your chosen career. To gain this competitive advantage career training could be the answer. If you want to get educated in a career training program, then there are institutions offering certificates for that very purpose. There are online institutes also conducting e-learning for their students. Online training also known as distance learning is quite a hit as many people have opted for this type of instruction. What are the different types of criminal justice school accreditations

For web-based criminology and criminal justice related distance education programs, the Criminal Justice Distance Learning Consortium (CJDLC) has laid down accreditation guidelines. These guidelines are themselves based on those developed by the Southern Regional Electronic Campus (SREC), the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) and regional academic acrrediting agencies including thezz Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Western Association of Colleges and Schools. The CJDLC guidelines without actually duplicating them, incorporate the basics of these organizations. The premise is that the applying institutions have already fulfilled the quality standards of these local and regional accrediting agencies. Regional Accrediting agencies refer to six main bodies, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia), the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and Panama), the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, New Mexico, South Dakota, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Wyoming), the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (California, Hawaii, the territories of Guam, American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, the Pacific Basin and East Asia) and the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington). There are also two additional bodies within the main RA, which are behind the Best Practices movement in distance education and include the Western Association’s Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities and North Central’s Higher Learning Commission. Accreditation from any of these eight groups is considered to be the best accreditation possible for a school. They are also recipients of the US Department of Education funding and their method of operation is mainly by site visit-peer review.

Following RA-accreditation there are also DETC and ACCSCT accredited schools. At these levels there are some outstanding program-level accreditation schemes. In some cases, the school itself may not be accredited but specific courses of study may be accredited.

Concept of e learning solutions better or worse

Increasing demand for corporate training as well as the logistical headaches associated with assembling instructors and students at a single location has been the main reason for the birth of E-learning services. In an attempt to avoid the logistical complications of on location training, many companies have opted for a virtual approach to training. Stand-alone CD-ROM modules, enterprise-wide, Web-based programs comprised of hundreds of courses custom-designed for thousands of users all fall under the concept of E-Learning. However, there’re many who’re skeptical of E-learning services and believes it to be just a lot of hype. E-learning is basically a new or different form of learning. E-learning enables learners to combine traditional methods of learning with the internet facilities. In fact, some learners opt for a mix of face-to-face experiences with network-based education. However, like everything, E-Learning programs have its pros and cons.

It has been found that often, E-learning provides a more individualized, self-paced, self-directed learning experience. A main advantage of E-learning services is flexibility. With E-learning services there is no need to go to an institution in order to learn a subject or a skill. Also, you can work as well as study because E-Learning solutions don’t have fixed classroom timings and therefore you’ve the freedom to learn at your own pace and at your convenience. E-Learning solutions also have the flexibility of being CD-ROM-based, Network-based, Intranet-based or Internet-based. It’s a hands-on learning experience without the disadvantages like crowded classrooms or a huge auditorium, where your questions and views might not get addressed. Another advantage is the amount of time you can save.

With E-learning services you can save the time as well as costs that you’d otherwise spend commuting to your classes. But, you’ll however miss out on the experiences that come with campus life and the social interaction that are a part of traditional classrooms and institutions. And with E-learning solutions, you can learn as and when you need it and your learning options aren’t constrained or limited by your geographic location. Another unique feature of E-learning services is that the instruction can be more personalized and flexible. Therefore it’s more effective for particular kinds of learners like, shy, reflective, language challenged or slow.

Within E-learning the focus is on the students and not on the instructor. However, like everything, it has its share of disadvantages as well. For example, E-learning services that have ineffective online instructors are not very useful. Also, many instructors find it difficult to use E-learning services for traditional content. And it’s at the same time more time consuming as instructors have to provide individualized feedback. Also, often there is the matter of equipment needs of students and learning providers as well as the technical training and support of learners and instructors. Another issue that needs to be addressed is the academic honesty of online students, especially when it comes to testing and assessment. In this matter the absence of face-to-face interaction is a big set back. Another fact is that E-learning services are not available to all learners from all walks of life, because it needs special infrastructure to support it as well as new skills and responsibilities from the students.

However, E-learning services provided by offshore E-Learning solutions provider companies have now become more universal, and is now giving people and organizations the competitive edge that allows them to stay ahead of the quickly varying global information economy. In the long run, this will help the Indian economy grow, since many companies have now started to outsource their E-learning services to India. Map quest

Historians teach that the USA emerged from its isolationist ways when it entered World War I ... Geography teachers may dispute that point. Whenever an American media outlet wants to re-emphasize the issue, they merely find one of many studies that show a significant percentage of high school students can't locate major foreign cities or countries on a map. The inference is that, no matter what the foreign policy, the average American citizen doesn't know or doesn't care about much of the world beyond his borders. If that's the case, I guess the average American viewer can't get any more confused when NBC follows the international 'corporate line' and promotes the Winter Olympics as being based in Torino. Americans speak English. In their language, the name of the city is Turin. Somewhere in the past, cultures have seen fit to customize geographic names for reasons known only to them at the time. Perhaps it was a 'pronunciation' issue or a translation matter. Whatever the origin, it's well-established. For example, the Germanic countries know the Empire of the Franks --- Frankreich, in their language --- is called France by those who live there. The French know their northeastern neighbors call their home country Deutschland and the English call that same country Germany, but to them, it's Allemagne. Lesser-populated countries see their homeland re-christened in even more versions; Sverige to its inhabitants is Sweden, Suйde, Schweden to others. For the collection of Alpine cantons that has become a banking capital to the world, citizens there acknowledge their multiple cultures and recognize their own government --- collectively and distinctly --- as Switzerland, Suisse, Schweiz and Svizzera. Their city names are affected, too. The list is long, so we'll only cite two examples in that category, in German, French and English: Genf - Genиve - Geneva Wien - Viиnne - Vienna The Europeans are accustomed to this. None of them attempt to put on airs and use a version of a name that is out of its cultural context. They know that to do so sounds absolutely silly. Such diversity is part of their immediate life. Decisions are less logical and more simplistic on the other side of the Atlantic. I can only imagine that NBC's promotional staff thinks the Italian version of the Italian city's name just sounds cooler than the English version. Or, perhaps they don't want to get into a religious angle when any American who actually has heard of Turin only thinks of the mysterious Shroud that is kept in safekeeping by the Catholic diocese there. Their rationalization is that it doesn't matter what version of the city's name they use, all their viewers will know is that it has lots of mountains, it has sufficient snow and ice to host the Winter Olympics, and it isn't in the USA. Now, this may seem to be a pedantic comment, but it underscores two longstanding complaints I have about the American educational perspective: 1. Measurements of comprehension are done by standardized testing, which is useless, and 2. The only time most Americans show any inclination to being 'international' --- without an army on its way somewhere --- is when they try to make a faux impression. All that happens with the former is that teachers have simply resorted to 'teach to the test' in order to move students along. It's hard to blame them. Funds for education are almost always lacking. The social stigma against students who don't pass to the next level often has greater repercussions in their lives than it should, and there are many students who simply don't 'test' well, which means teachers need to spend more time coaching them to the method as opposed to the material. The net effect is that students not only never really grasp the content of the lesson, they also don't grasp the context of the lesson outside of a test environment. No personal relevance results in no educational retention. The latter is a lingering effect of the general American populace being under the impression that the world is at its beck and call. Thus, there is no urgency for them to concern themselves about its nuances. For their part, I suppose the best NBC can expect to do is convey that Turin is in northern Italy, amidst the Alps. Hopefully, they won't have to underscore that it's in Europe, and that Europe is on the other side of the Atlantic. There won't be a test on it later, but when someone somewhere in the USA eventually does so, or when the topic arises in a real-world situation, I'm sure it will be in English. So will the correct response.
