With crime on the rise - especially those of burglary, drug-related robberies, and kidnapping - it's wise to prepare in advance how you will protect your home and family. In the event of an attack or break-in, there are many ways to protect your family, but preparation is a must. Your family members, even those who are young, should have a plan. Weaponry to Protect, Not to Kill Though many families have guns hidden away for protection, guns are dangerous. Accidents can occur within the family or in the event of trying to defend the family; the burglar could take the gun from you and murder everyone in the family. Also, there's often an emotional breakdown if someone is killed, even in self-defense. It's a good idea to have weaponry that de-mobilizes the burglar, but doesn't kill them. Some forms of weaponry that many are using include stun guns and pepper spray. How Stun Guns Work Stun guns disrupt the attacker's body by generating a high-voltage electrical charge with low amperage. The stun gun's charge applies much pressure but little intensity. The charge can pass through thick clothing and skin. Its charge is not intense enough to do damage to the attacker's body unless it is applied for extended periods of time. A stun gun can, however, confuse the attacker by sending mixed signals to his brain. He can become temporarily or partially paralyzed, confused and unbalanced. This can give you or a family member enough time to get away and contact the police. It's important not attempt any heroic acts; only use the stun gun as protection for your life or the lives of your family members. Then, get away as quickly as possible. Stun Gun Voltage Stun guns can be chosen according to voltage. They might contain from 20,000 volts all the way up to about 1,000,000 volts! They usually operate on 9-volt batteries. The batteries supply the stun gun with electricity to an electrical circuit. Components within the circuit give the voltage a boost while reducing the amperage. The stun gun has electrodes, which are usually small metal pieces with a gap in between. The gap is where a conductor must be placed. The conductor, of course, may be the arm, shoulder or hand of your attacker! There are also liquid stun guns and taser guns. The Citizen's Protector For ordinary home protection, citizens often choose medium-voltage stun guns that are easy to operate and store. There are stun guns that are disguised as umbrellas, flashlights, or other objects to create the element of surprise. Military personnel, security officers, and police officials often use more complex stun guns. Stun Guns: Where to Buy Them You can buy stun guns at home security outlets or stores in your hometown or in a nearby larger city. Or if you're pressed for time, there are places on the Internet that offer these products at great prices. You can shop for all sorts of security products online such as Talon stun guns, pepper sprays, alarms, and so forth. You can also save money by buying discount stun guns or even wholesale stun guns from an online store. Before making a purchase, check out the company to be sure it is a reputable business. Also, check with your state and city laws to be sure the type of stun gun you are buying is legal in your area. Don't leave your family unprotected. Although they can't be used in every situation, stun guns can give added security in these uncertain days!
Walkmans and CD players are a thing of the past, thanks to MP3 players. Now music and sound files can travel anywhere on a tiny hand held device. With the advent of MP3 players, the demand for traditional AA batteries has gone down too. Now there is a new contender on the market to keep MP3 players singing. In order to keep MP3 players running they need a very powerful battery. For most brands, the Lithium-Ion battery is used. It lasts much longer than traditional batteries, and is perfectly designed for playing music or running programs for long periods of time. Lithium batteries are also very lightweight in comparison to their traditional counterparts. These lithium batteries can run up to 18 hours without recharging. COMPRESSORS Compressors come with or without air storage tanks. Compact compressors generally use a diaphragm type pump powered be an electric motor. Since the capacity of the compact compressor is limited, they are primarily used for hobby and light spray painting. Compact compressors do have the capacity to run glue guns, inflate low pressure tires and sports equipment. The unit must run continuously, since there is no reserve tank on the compact compressor. Using connecting rods sealed in oil free bearings provides and oil free air supply. Compact compressors generally have wheels and a handle for easy pulling. They weigh around 30 lbs. and commonly have a Ѕ hp engine. Designed similar to the cylinder/piston mechanism of an automobile are the piston type compressors. Utilizing a gas or electric motor to drive the pump unit, these compressors will have either one or two cylinders, depending on the compressor’s size. Piston compressors are more durable and offer a greater work capacity. These compressors, in the past, required lubrication for the piston and cylinder. Oil free piston compressors are now available and, having self lubricating parts, perform as well as or better than conventional compressors. Horsepower ratings on compressors refers to the motor that powers the pump unit. The higher the horsepower equates to a more powerful compressor with greater work capacity. Other ratings include cubic feet per minute (cfm) which is the volume of air that the compressor supplies. The size and number of tools operating from the compressor will determine the amount of cfm required. The amount of air pressure generated by the compressor is referred to as psi or pounds per square inch. Tools also have a psi rating, which must be considered when matching the tools to the compressor. Gasoline powered compressors are desirable for use where air tools are needed away from a source of electricity. Eye protection should always be worn when operating air tools. Air powered tools have high power and fast rotation. TOOLS Sizing of the tool intake (1/4”, 3/8”,1/2”,3/4” and 1”) will determine the size of connectors attached to the air hose as well as the psi and cfm required to operate the air tool. Some of the most popular tools include blow gun, drill, grease gun, grinder, hammer, impact wrench, nail gun, stapler, ratchet, sand blaster, sander, saw spray gun, tire chuck, tire inflator, die grinder and riveter. Kits are also available to adapt and compliment the use of air tools.
The advent of modern technology has been amazing to help people getting things done in twice the time, and getting things delivered twice as fast. But what do we do when our technology fails us? What happens when our techny clip-board dies? Sure you can smack it a couple of times but honestly this solution will be short term and may end up only damaging your equipment. The best insurance that a battery will last you a long time is using quality components and following all the instructions. Battery life time varies greatly depending on a number of factors.
Two important factors are the number of applications and types of applications on the small appliance being used. If you want your battery to last a long time, try not to run down the battery life by overusing the appliance. If it is necessary to run multiple applications for an extended period of time, you may want to consider purchasing a larger capacity battery (if available), or purchasing an extra battery so you will always have a charged battery when you need it. The “memory effect” is another factor you may have heard about that affects battery life. The memory effect is a pattern seen in certain batteries that causes then to hold less charge. It occurs when a battery is only partially used and then recharged to full charge. It is similar to voltage depression, a condition in which the battery’s voltage level drops faster even though total charge power of the battery remains the same. These effects are caused by repeated over charging of that batteries that leave electrolyte build up on the battery. People have come up with several theories to overcome the memory effect, thought most are just that, theories, and are difficult to duplicate in the real world. Battery manufacturers have worked to develop more powerful and effective batteries. The newest and most popular advent in battery technology is the Lithium Ion battery and it surpasses traditional batteries in many ways. Li-Ion batteries charge faster and weigh much less. They are also more environmentally sound because they do not contain toxic materials such as mercury. And most importantly, Li-Ion batteries do not suffer from memory effect. The technology for Li-Ion batteries is increasing every day. So an everlasting battery may not yet exist, but we can be assured that engineers are working every day to make the batteries that help us in our daily lives, faster, safer, and more powerful.
A battery is a device that stores chemical energy and is available in an electric form. The batteries contain a series of electrochemical devices that contains one or more fuel cells, galvanic cells and flow cells. This electric battery is an interconnected array of one or more than one voltaic cells that are used in the cars, in torches, laptops, digital watches and almost every electronic goods that we use in our daily life. Series of battery cells The cells in the battery are connected either in parallel, in series or in both combinations. While the parallel combination of cells has the same voltage power as a single cell, it can supply a higher current than a single cell can. The parallel arrangements, however, suffer from a recurrent problem. If one cell discharges faster than its neighbor cell, then current will flow from the full cell to the empty cell, thereby wasting a lot of power and causing excess of overheating. Another marked disadvantage is if one of the cells gets short-circuited due to an internal fault, then its neighbor will be forced to discharge its maximum current into the faulty cell, thereby leading to sudden explosion. The capacity of a battery to store charge is often expressed in ampere hours [1 A. h = 3600 coulombs]. If the battery can provide one ampere [1A] of current for completely one hour then it is said to have a real-world capacity of 1 A. h. Types of batteries There are some common battery types that are used in everyday life. The different types include rechargeable and disposable batteries, homemade cells, and traction batteries and flow batteries. Disposable batteries Also called primary cells are intended to use only once until the chemical changed that induce electrical current supply are complete and the battery is then discarded. They are commonly used in smaller and portable objects with low current drain. They are usually contained in light drain and heavy drain appliances, digital cameras, watches, computer clocks, and hearing aids. Rechargeable batteries These are secondary cells that can be recharged after they have been drained. This is done by conveniently applying externally supplied electrical current that reverses the chemical reactions that usually occur in use. It is used in appliances like alarm systems, vehicles, vacuum tube radio sets, absorbed glass mats etc. Traction batteries These batteries are designed to provide power to move vehicles like electric cars and tow motors. A peculiar characteristic of traction batteries is the electrolytes in the batteries are gelled. Flow batteries They are a special class of battery that stores additional quantities of electrolyte outside the main power cell of the battery and are circulated throughout by pumps or through movement. They have a high capacity and are specially used in the marine appliances. So whether it’s your car, PC, laptop cell phone or MP3 player, the batteries are almost everywhere to make you electrically mobile.
An air compressor is a valuable piece of equipment for operating power tools. They are better in terms of efficiency and are easier on you. The type you need depends on the tools you will be using. Good choices include a Copeland compressor, Husky air compressors or Quincy compressors. Factors to Consider in an Air Compressor Consider how often you will use air compressors and how it will be used. What tools will you be using and how much power will be needed to operate them? Some tools, like nail guns, don’t need high volume compressor. Others, such as drills or sanders do need high volume because they require steady air flow. Set a budget for your purchase. The price for these machines varies significantly from brand to brand. Buying a used compressor is one way to make your budget stretch further. The style of the pump is another consideration. The most common are direct drive and belt drive. Direct drive pumps will last up to five hundred hours. These take up less room in your workshop. They are well suited for moderate uses. Another benefit of these is that no oil changes are needed. Belt drive pumps require oil changes every five hundred hours and will last for about fifteen hundred hours. These are good for do it yourself as well as professional use. Consider the power of the compressor. Consider both the horsepower and pound per square inch (PSI) pressure. Make sure it is more powerful than the most powerful tool you will be using. Check your tools before purchasing the compressor. The tank size is another important consideration. These come in sizes from two to one hundred gallons. The more you will use the equipment, the larger the tank you will need. Always go a little larger than you think you will need. This will ensure that you can get the optimum use from the compressor. Finding an Affordable Air Compressor Shop around before purchasing air compressor systems. Compare brands and read reviews on the internet. Compare the machines and features of each. Similar machines can differ by hundreds of dollars. Consider a reconditioned machine. In these, the machines have been completely inspected. Worn or damaged air compressor parts are replaced. Many of these have gotten very little use and are in nearly new condition. You can find equipment at a considerable savings. Look for a model with a one year warranty to be sure you are getting a quality product. Consider shopping online. Often, the prices are considerably less than in some stores. Many ship straight from the factory, saving retail mark up. This savings can be significant. In many cases, you won’t need to pay sales tax on the equipment, which can add up. Many sites offer free shipping on these purchases, so it won’t cost any additional money for shipping.
You have seen it on TV, you have heard about it on the Radio, the internet is full of sites where you can buy it. The Cold Heat Soldering Tool. What is cold heat? It is not new. It is not revolutionary. Cold heat is a marketing term to get you to spend your money on soldering tool. This soldering tool works very simply. It creates a high watt electronic arc between two points.
This electric arc melts solder if it is between the two points. Great concept. Right? The fact that most things that need to be soldered are electronic in nature might want to be considered. Is the computer you are reading this on plugged into a surge protector? Why? Electronic components do not like quick burst of high watts and volts.
The electric arc is passed between two points, the heat is between the points. How wide are these points, can the distance be varied? No. Do flash solder joints have electrical and structural integrity? No. What is the advantage of cold heat soldering. The soldering effect is very quick. (Try making toast in the microwave) The cold heat soldering tool is cordless and portable. Cold heat soldering tool minimizes the chance of the operator burning themselves. Cold Heat Soldering Tool is an exceptional tool for people who should not operate stoves, ovens, toasters and are not allowed to play with matches. If your skill level is higher than the above mentioned there is a cordless soldering tool that provides exceptional soldering characteristics. The system comes with a safety switch and cap. As with everything else, the requirements in a home theatre vary from person to person. However, all of us have something in common, that is, we want the perfect home theatre, suited to our own tastes. We want every item perfect, right from the equipment to proper placing of them which would ensure proper balance and quality of sound. We want to watch movies the way it was meant to be. Is the ultimate home theatre contained in owning a Cinema 1 True 5.1 Digital Wireless 2.4GHz headphone system? Or is a home theatre incomplete without a nice flat panel TV like a Sony KDF-E50A10 50 in. HDTV LCD Television? Then there comes the question of choosing whether to use DVD or VHS. This is almost readily decided for people who buy or rent their DVDs; they will do fine with a DVD player alone.
But for people who still have tons of tapes with their favorite movies on them will definitely have to go for systems which allows VHS playback and preferably allows them to be converted over to DVDs. There might also be another factor to consider, that is, sometimes, the combo units are better performers than their solo counterparts. One such unit is the LG LRY-517 Super-Multi DVD Recorder/VCR Combo. This unit would be suited for anyone into home theatre but only if one has the money would he consider buying it. Almost often, performance of the units is measured against their price. With the internet, this has become very easy as dedicated websites like “Price-watch” and “Ubid” dot com allows the user to make comparative price choices, and sometimes auction sites lower the prices even further. In a recent comparison, the top performing DVDs chosen were - JVC DR-MX1S DVD/VCR/Hard Drive Recorder Combo, LG LRY-517 Super-Multi DVD Recorder/VCR Combo, Panasonic DMR-ES40VS DVD Recorder - VCR Combination, Pioneer DVR-RT500 DVD Recorder/VHS VCR Combination, Panasonic PV-DR2714 DVD Recorder/VCR/TV Combo, Panasonic DMR-ES30VS DVD Recorder VCR Combination, and Sony RDR-VX500 DVD Recorder/VCR Combination. All of these units were chosen considering their price to performance ratio. This indicates that service and professional quality alone aren’t the only considerations in buying a good home theatre. While considering the television situation, it is important to note that high definition is not the only advanced technology. Though still new, plasma based displays have already taken over others in terms of performance and convenience. They work with virtually any type of input source, including computers. This makes them feasible for movies as well as gaming use. The top models available are Panasonic TH-42PHD7UY Plasma Television, LG Electronics 42PX5D 42-Inch Plasma Television, Pioneer PDP-5060HD Plasma Television, Samsung SP-R4232 42-inch Plasma TV, Hitachi Ultravision 42HDF52 42-Inch Plasma Television, Panasonic TH-37PX50U Plasma Television, Panasonic TH-50PX500 50-Inch Plasma Television; and again price was a factor of consideration. Even plasma TVs should be selected based on the price to performance ratio. The whole emphasis is laid on the fact that buyers should be conscious of what they are buying. It is very important that the product fits the buyer, its price fits the buyer, but what is more important is that the buyer should know what he is buying, and what is that he wants. Once the buyer purchases it, it is owned by him fully. In today’s online market, two very important considerations are price at delivery, because shipping costs extra, and warranty - what is the warranty policy, on - site or carry in? 1 month or 1 year, etc. Buyers beware.
These days, vacuum cleaners are a familiar tool in any household cleaning arsenal, but this has not always been the case. In days gone by, cleaning was a job performed by using more primitive tools, like the trusty sweeping brush or broom. And while these tools were undoubtedly of enormous value to the house cleaner who had little else to work with, we have come a long way since then, and, in some ways, have come full circle. It was the Industrial Revolution that set the cleaning world alight. Before that time, the sweeping brush was king, and really, it was probably quite adequate. But though the presence of heavy dust and grime increased during the revolution, as the cities in which many people lived became covered in soot and other industrial by-products, the dirt that was created was really not sufficient reason for housewives to become the queens of cleanliness they did. Around this time, though, a huge propaganda campaign was born that alarmed people with its prophecies. Health and lives were in mortal danger if dirt was not tamed, and cleaning products of all sorts witnessed an enormous jump in sales.
It was against this backdrop that the first vacuum cleaner came into being. Invented in Chicago in 1865, this hand pumped device lead the way in vacuum cleaner development. Followed by a range of similar devices, the design became more and more intricate as the years progressed, with the cleaners growing ever more ornate and multifunctional, being used as sideboards, among other things. However, requiring two people to operate it, this type of machine was less than user friendly. The democratization of electricity availability opened new door in vacuum cleaner development. Emerging just after the turn of the twentieth century, the electric vacuum cleaner, made by brands such as Hoover, made housework easier for millions. Using a fan motor and a pillowcase as a dust collector, a man named Spangler began a trend.
Soon after, William H. Hoover came aboard, and the rest, as they say, is history. Today we are eager to eliminate dirt from our lives as were our Industrial Revolution forefathers, and the choice of vacuum cleaners available today reflects this trend. And while housework can be a tiresome chore, it was this enthusiasm for cleanliness that brought the vacuum cleaner into our world, so that now, after a hundred years or so of technological development, we can rid our homes of dust and dirt in minutes.
When creating a home theater, it can help to heed some sound advice: Working with the right materials can do a lot to improve the overall acoustic integrity of the system. For example, medium density fiberboard (MDF) is widely used in the manufacture of furniture, cabinets, door parts, mouldings, millwork and laminate flooring. MDF is a composite panel product consisting of recycled wood fibers combined with a synthetic bonding system and joined together under heat and pressure. Additives may be introduced during manufacturing to impart additional characteristics. The surface of MDF is flat, smooth, uniform, dense and free of knots and grain patterns, all of which make finishing operations easier and more consistent, especially for demanding uses such as direct printing and thin laminates. The homogeneous density profile of MDF allows intricate and precise machining and finishing for high end architectural products. Hitting The Right Notes MDF is an extremely versatile building material. As a dense, rigid, acoustically inert product, MDF has no peers when it comes to creating speaker cabinets capable of delivering high-fidelity and high-energy audio. A properly designed MDF speaker cabinet will focus the maximum "acoustic energy" at the listeners, while keeping vibration transition to a minimum. When building a home theater, it's important to use materials that will bring out the system's sound quality. In some cases, designers have used MDF for wall panels with special fabric coverings to control acoustic reflections in the room. MDF is considered a smart choice for home audiophiles who like higher sound pressure levels. You can really add punch to a sound system with "tactile transducers" under the home theater floor. These are piston-driven devices, connected to the base channel, that can shake the whole room. Such installations are invariably coordinated with double layers of MDF. The Composite Panel Association brings together 39 North American producers of particleboard, medium density fiberboard and other compatible products.
The GPS (Global Positioning System) has been fully functional for nearly two decades. GPS consists of 27 satellites positioned in a medium earth orbit. A satellite is considered to be in medium earth orbit when it is 35,000 kilometers above the Earth's surface, roughly 22,000 miles. The first experimental satellite was launched in 1972. It was not until 1995, 23 years after the launch of the first experimental satellite, that GPS bore fruit as a fully function satellite tracking system.
Even then the system was restricted to military and airline industry use. Once GPS was fully functional both the military and civilian implications were quickly recognized. In 1996, then President, Bill Clinton, opened the system to civilian uses as well as military uses. Due to limitations early civilian GPS was not very reliable and so its wide spread use had been severely limited. In 1998 and again in 2004 extra civilian signals were added to GPS. The net affect of the added civilian signals was that the quality and accuracy of the data were raised to a level that civilian GPS has now become a marketable product and service. Since 2004 GPS as a market technology has realized a boom in demand with no end in potential growth in site. How GPS Technology Works The 27 satellites that are collectively known as the Global Positioning System have flight patterns that make four satellites available to a GPS receiver at any time any where in the world. A GPS receiver must be able to contact and communicate with a minimum of 4 satellites to be able to calculate minimally qualified location data. The larger the number of satellites a GPS receiver can contact the better it will be able to calculate a location. In order to triangulate a geographic position a GPS receiver calculates the time that it takes for the signal of the GPS satellite to reach the GPS receiver. From this data the GPS unit is able to calculate the distance to each satellite. The time distance information is then used by the mapping software on the GPS receiver unit to determine an exact location on earth. Satellite signal degradation from both natural and man made obstructions can affect how accurate a GPS unit is. This is why GPS units will try to contact as many GPS satellites as possible. The more satellites the GPS unit is able to contact the more accurate the location. Uses Of GPS The purpose of GPS technology has not changed much over the last 30 years. Its primary purpose is still to as precisely as possible pinpoint a location anywhere on Earth. How GPS technology is used has not truly changed either. It is used for two primary functions tracking and navigation. Growth in GPS technology has not come because of changes in use but because of an increase in signal quality, decrease in component costs of a GPS unit, increase in the quality and sophistication of mapping software, the bundling of GPS units with other services, and more sophisticated marketing to a broader segment of the population. Today GPS units large and small can be found in airplanes, cars, attached to motorcycles, in cell phones, PDAs and hidden in freight to protect from theft. The shrinking of GPS unit component sizes has enabled the use of GPS to be limited only by your imagination.
To believe this one should watch both of them and feel the difference on their own. The quality of picture and sound are of high quality which gives you ultimate excitement and satisfaction while watching your favorite programs. Digital TV compresses images which help to broadcast multiple channels at a same band width. Whereas Analog which is generally called as SDTV uses magnetic waves to transmit and display pictures and sound which has been traditionally used. The special features available in Digital TV is surround sound, crystal clear pictures, sharper pictures which is all requires for the latest evolution of television the High Definition Television. Compared to the analog the SDTV is significant as it provides more channels from the same station. If you observe the analog broad casting you will find that it is a hassle the capacity to accommodate only a few stations. Where as with digital it contains more information than the analog. If you already have an analog set and wish to upgrade it to a digital one its possible by using digital tuner decoder though it will display the high quality pictures as provided by the original digital sets.
In today’s market you find digital quality sets are available and the best news is that their prices have decreased. The cable providers always do not supply with digital cables which digital signals. As such cables do not meet the standards when a digital cable is connected to a digital TV it will receive only analog signal, thus eliminating the advantages of a digital television. A solution for this is the digital quality pictures provided by satellite service providers. Digital TV is used for the latest innovation in entertainment the HDTV.
Here you get to watch pictures in a wider screen with more clarity than in analog sets. The picture quality and the audio clarity are far better as compared with the analog. If this revolution from analog to digital continues what about consumers who have analog system is a question which ponders the minds of many. For this a transition period has been set up and that is through the year 2006. If necessity requires then that can be extended too.
The microwave oven is one of the most used appliances in most kitchens. Millions of people use them everyday to warm up leftovers, cook frozen dinners, and even make popcorn. As much as people use microwaves on a daily basis, most people only utilize a small percentage of a microwave ovens capabilities. Before you go out and purchase your next microwave oven, it is a good idea to have an understanding of everything a microwave can do for you as well as a knowledge of the types of microwaves that are available. Most microwave ovens see the majority of their use coming from simple tasks such as reheating leftovers or thawing frozen food, but they are able to do so much more. Microwaves can also be used to cook complete meals in very little time. Because microwave ovens cook food much faster than a conventional oven or stove, more nutrients are allowed to remain in your food, making the microwave a healthy cooking option.
Microwave ovens are also an economical choice because they save a lot of money in energy costs. With such quick cooking times, they will be at full power for much less time than a conventional oven or stove, using less electricity and saving you money on your utilities. They also are a wonderful alternative to cooking with your oven on a hot day. There is nothing worse than heating up the kitchen when it is already sweltering outside. Try preparing your whole meal using the microwave instead of the oven and not only will your house remain at a much more comfortable temperature, you will save money by not having to run a fan or the air conditioner to compensate for the heat the oven or stove caused. There are several things to consider when buying a microwave oven.
If you have an understanding of your cooking and reheating needs, you will be better equipped to choose exactly the right microwave oven for you. Capacity and power are the biggest differences in the microwave ovens on the market today. Before you shop around, it is best to determine what capacity and power your family needs. If you plan to use your microwave to cook a lot of food for a large number of people you need to buy a microwave oven that is a higher powered unit. Look for a microwave with a wattage of at least 1000 watts. Compact microwave ovens run between 500-800 watts, midsize microwave ovens tend to range from 800-1000 watts, and full size microwaves are over 1000 watts. The higher the wattage, the more power the microwave has, which means faster cooking times.
The capacity of a microwave is almost as important as the wattage. You want to make sure that you get a microwave that is big enough to fit your favorite cookware. If you are planning to cook large casseroles in your microwave, you should consider buying a full size model. Compact microwave ovens have a capacity that is less than .8 cubic feet. Midsize microwave ovens have a capacity that is .8 to 1.2 cubic feet and full size microwaves are always larger than 1.2 cubic feet. The last thing to consider when buying a microwave oven is storage. The size of the microwave will limit where you can place it, so it needs to be taken into account.
If you have limited counter space, a full size microwave may be out of the question. If you are set on getting a high wattage microwave with the capacity to cook a roast, but your counter space is limited, there are a few alternatives. You can buy a microwave cart to set it on or invest in a microwave that fits over your existing range. You can also find microwaves that fit under cabinets or built in to your walls. If you are in the market for a new microwave, carefully consider how much capacity you need, how high a wattage system you require, and how much kitchen space you can allot to your new microwave. Once you have figured out the three basics, you can easily narrow down your choices based on your list of needs. Buy the microwave that best fits all three of your criteria.
Batteries used in things like wheel chairs are essential for every day living and it is not convenient when they die. When you depend on a battery for mobility, it is crucial that the battery is a powerful one. Batteries designed specifically for electric motors are known as traction batteries. They are constructed is several ways. One is a gel-battery in which electrolyte gel packs are used to avoid spilling common in lead-acid batteries. A newer traction battery on the market is the AGM battery, or absorbed glass mat battery. In this battery, the electrolyte is embedded in between boron-silicate glass mats. Just like gel-batteries they will not spill if broken, but AGM batteries can take much more mechanical abuse from things like shock and vibration. AGM wheelchair batteries are also more ideal because of their charge and discharge rates. Charging an AGM battery is similar to most standard batteries, so there is no need for a special charger, and there are no problems with incompatible chargers. AGM batteries have a very low self-discharge rate which allows them to sit for periods of time without recharging. AGM batteries also charge quite rapidly. AGM batteries are a great and safe alternative to the hazardous lead-acid batteries. In cases of mobility, spillage can be a deadly issue. Wheelchair batteries can be quite expensive, but they are long lasting and crucial for those who need them to get around.
One of the newest additions in television technology, Plasma Televisions are the 21st century display devices which are fast becoming a popular choice among television viewers. Plasma televisions have higher resolution and quality performance than other conventional televisions; they guarantee crisp and clear images, and superior quality. Plasma televisions became a reality after the successful invention of the plasma display panel in 1964, by Donald L. Bitzer and H. Gene Slottow at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Embracing a unique technology, Plasma televisions produce pictures from a combination of inert gases such as xenon and neon. When the gas is charged using electrodes, the atoms collide with each other and release energy in the form of invisible ultra violet (UV) light. The light is then focused on the three phosphors (red, green, and blue) and a brilliant picture is produced. Plasma televisions come as Enhanced Definition TV (EDTV) with a resolution of 852x480 and the Higher Definition TV (HDTV) featuring a native resolution of 1024x768. Plasma televisions have a high widescreen aspect ratio - the ratio between the width and height of the screen. As plasma televisions do not use any electron beams like the conventional ones, they are immune to the effects of magnetic fields. They offer a wider viewing angle and accurate image reproduction.
Plasma televisions are slim and space-saving and can even be hung on a wall. Moreover, most of the plasma televisions come with a flat screen which eliminates edge distortion. Plasma televisions can be used in meeting rooms, corporate offices, and network control rooms. They are ideal choices for home-theater enthusiasts. On account of quality performance in ambient light, plasma televisions are widely opted for teleconferencing. A countless number of retail and online stores specialize in plasma television sale. Due to their inherent merits, plasma televisions are becoming the most demanded alternative to the standard CRT and projection televisions.
: After twelve years of owning desktop computers, I finally opted for a laptop so I would no longer be chained to my desk. After months of research and weighing various makes and models, I settled on the Dell Inspiron 600m Notebook Computer. This particular model has exceeded all of my expectations and at a price that is hundreds of dollars lower than many competing brands. For several months I agonized over my next computer purchase. I knew I needed to be more mobile and only a notebook computer would permit me to take my "show on the road." Still, the decision making process was not easy as the number of different makes and models out there is mind boggling. Ultimately, I settled on a Dell in part because of previous good experience with the company as well as affordability of their product line. The model I chose was the Inspiron 600m. As with almost everything that Dell builds, it is a "new" model; at least the 600m designation is. That is one of the confusing things about Dell and some other manufacturers: every month Dell introduces new models and you need a scorecard to compare one model with all the others. Fortunately, Dell's website allows you to do just that.
Key features of the Inspiron 600m include: Lightweight: Just over five pounds. Mobile Centrino Technology is standard. 14.1 inch screen Pentium M 725 Processor 24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive 256MB DDR SDRAM 1 Dimm Memory Wireless Network Card Extended Battery Microsoft Windows XP Home Addition WordPerfect Productivity Pack I kept my computer fairly basic but I did opt for the latest version of Norton Security, a surge protected cable, a wirless router, and a wireless mouse. I selected the wireless mouse as I thought the keyboard's mouse would be difficult to use. After two days I quit using the wireless mouse as I quickly got used to the built in one. The screen is bright and the keyboard is solid. The mouse keys, however are noisy, almost clunky; you wonder if Dell could have used a quieter spring for each key. The battery lasts at least four hours without recharging and when I do need to recharge I can go from nearly dead to fully charged in less than one hour. For the price -- I paid just over $1100. for everything including shipping and local taxes -- the Dell cannot be beat. I haven't had to call customer service yet, so I cannot comment on that although in years past your call would be routed to a technician in India. This model comes with a standard one year limited warranty; I avoided a later sales pitch over the phone to get a three year warranty.
Their top of the line warranty sends a technician to your house to fix your computer, so it can be option for those of you who do not want to ship -- and thereby lose the use of -- your computer back to Dell for repairs. You will find the Inspiron 600m to be adequate for standard business work. Check out their myriad of other models if you do plenty of graphic design or if you need a larger screen. I am happy with the 14.1 screen, but you may prefer their 17" model.
In a typical home theater setup, there should be six home theater speakers: two front speakers, two surround speakers, a center speaker and a subwoofer for the lowest frequency ranges. There are two ways to obtain all these speakers: buying each of them seperately, or buying a home theater speaker set. Home Theater Speaker Sets If you're low on budget, you should think about one of these. But remember: don't spare on speakers, they're very important. There are lots of cheap home theater speaker sets on the market, but you shouldn't buy one of them, because these are of poor quality. Usually, sets manufactured by well-know brands (Klipsch, Bose, for example) produce a decent sound. This way you'll still not spend as much as you would on separate speakers. If you're thinking about buying one of these sets, read our article on home theatres in a box. Going One By One So, you're serious about your future home theater, and want to spend a little more on the speakers? Buying speakers separately has many advantages: it's the best quality you can have, and another, often overlooked advantage is that you can don't have to buy the whole set at a time, so if you haven't got the money, you can still have high quality speakers in your setup. Your front speakers should be the strongest members in your home theater speaker setup. If you have a small room, choose bookshelf speakers. Larger rooms will require larger speakers; in this case, powerful floor-standing speakers is the choice to go with. I often hear that it is advisable to have the exact same speakers for surround and front. This is true, but it's not very practical: movie sound mixes don't use surround speakers as much as they use the front speakers. So, you can choose smaller and less-powerful speakers for your surround setup, it won't make significant differences anywhere except your wallet. The surround and front units were good, old-fashioned hi-fi speakers used for a home theater setup. The case is different with our center speaker. It's a special speaker with unique frequency response. If it's possible, have the center speaker from the same brand as the surround and front speakers. This unit is also often overlooked, but it's very important, because this speaker is used for voices and talking in a sound mix. The subwoofer is used to reproduce the lower frequencies. Sometimes, it's optional: the front speakers can be powerful enough to rock the house, and an additional subwoofer is not needed. However, in larger rooms, it's inevitable. Subwoofers require lots of power, and in most cases, they require their own power input (these are called "active subwoofers").
Plasma TV Buying Tips Plasma technology seems to be the buzz these days and its popularity continues to grow as HDTV, DVD-video, DTV, and digital satellite become more commonplace. These plasma TV buying tips will help you make the right decision. Plasma resolution is higher than traditional TV sets and it’s capable of HDTV, DTV, as well as VGA, SVGA, and XGA. A plasma television will have a display of 1366 x 768 and it will provide much more vibrant colors and clarity than anything we’ve seen in the past. Plasma is measured diagonally just like other televisions. The smallest screen is 32 inches and the largest is 63 inches. If you are recessing your TV, you need to leave 3 inches of space at top to provide proper ventilation. You will also need 6 inches on each side for your speakers. You need to make sure your plasma will allow for proper viewing from all directions. Don’t just purchase the largest screen because it’s a good price. Purchase a size that works best with your room. Thirty-two to thirty-seven inch screens are viewed best from 6 to 10 feet. Forty-two inch screens are viewed best from 10 to 14 feet; and 50 inch screen are best viewed from 12 to 16 feet. Screens that are over 50 inches should be viewed from at least 15 feet away. The flatter the tube is on the television the less glare you will get from windows, doors, and lamps. You’ll also get less distortion on the screen. If you are going to the expense of buying a plasma television, go for the flat screen right away. It’s definitely a smart investment. Make sure the TV has at least one set of audio video inputs and at least one set of audio output. More is better if at all possible. Also check for RCA composite, component video inputs, and S-video. If you are going to use HDTV, then check for the HD component firewire. When it comes time to go shopping you can choose to purchase from a local retail outlet or you might want to have a look online. There are often some great buys to be found online. Of course, as with any purchase, use common sense. If the price sounds too good to be true it usually is. Always buy from a reputable dealer that you know you can trust. There are several pricing portals online such as Nextag, Pricegrabber, and Bizrate. These sites are a quick way to see what is available at different sites online. Remember the only sites you’ll find on these portals are paid advertisers but it’s still a good place to start looking. Be sure to check the warranty on the television you are looking at. If an extended warranty option is available it’s definitely worth considering if it’s reasonably priced. Follow these plasma TV buying tips and you’ll be well on your way to buying that new TV!
Even today, Texas Instruments remains the primary manufacturer of this technology. Many different manufacturers license the technology from Texas Instruments, and build their products around the TI chipset. In addition to its use in televisions and projectors, DLP technology is used in a number of specialized applications such as lithography and imaging. DLP technology differs from other video technology in that it utilizes a small digital micromirror device (DMD) to tilt more than 1.3 million of these tiny mirrors, each of them smaller than the width of a human hair either toward or away from the light source contained within the DLP device. This process creates the dark and light pixels which appear on the projection screen. The light is then filtered through a color wheel rotating at 120 times per second, to produce a technology that is capable of producing some 1024 different shades of gray. It is this gradation of color that really makes DLP technology stand out, and these gradations of color are achieved using color filters which are backlit using just the right intensity of pure white light. There are four major components to the DLP system: The DMD chip, which controls the mirrors The color wheel The light source and The optics In order to produce the picture, the light from the lamp passes through the color wheel filter and into the DMD chip, which then switches its mirrors on or off according to the color which is reflecting off of them. This digital light processing, or DLP, technology is rapidly becoming a major player in the world of the rear projection TV, and more than two million of these TVs have been sold. More than 50 manufacturers sell at least one model of DLP based television, and as of 2004 the DLP TV had achieved a 10% market share. In addition, small standalone units, known in the business as front projectors, have become popular items both in the world of business presentations and in the world of home theater. Advantages of DLP Technology There are a number of important advantages to television sets that use DLP technology to produce their displays. Some of these advantages include: Images that are smooth and free of jitter No possibility of screen burn in Good contrast Good depth of color In addition, DLP rear projection televisions are generally smaller, thinner and lighter in weight than traditional CRT televisions of similar size. Another potential advantage of the new DLP technology is that the light source is replaceable, which may be able to provide a longer lifespan than either traditional CRT or new plasma screen displays. The light source of the DLP unit is much easier to replace than that in an LCD model, and many models of DLP television feature light sources that are easily changed by the end user. Of course no one wants to replace the light source before its time, and the newest LED light sources on the market, introduced in April of 2006, have been shown to last 20,000 hours before needing to be replaced. Disadvantages of DLP Technology Of course there are some disadvantages to DLP television technology as well, and it is important for those in the market for a new TV to be aware of these potential pitfalls. For instance, in some single chip DLP designs, viewers may be bothered by the so called “rainbow effect”, which affects how colors are displayed on the TV and perceived by the viewer. In addition to this rainbow effect, some possible disadvantages of DLP technology include: Not as thin or as sleek as LCD or plasma displays, even though the weight is comparable Some models have noisy fans The replacement bulbs can be quite expensive, ranging from $200 to as much as $500 Competing Technologies The main competitor to DLP in the market for rear projection televisions is known as LCoS (liquid crystal on silicon). This technology creates its images by using a stationary mirror which is mounted on the surface of a chip, and then uses a liquid crystal matrix to control how much light is reflected to create the image. These competing standards are still being worked out, so it is important to shop carefully and to read lots of reviews before making a final purchase. When shopping for a DLP television, it is important of course to learn as much as you can about the new technology, and it is just as important to shop around for the best possible price. When shopping for a new DLP TV, it is important to look carefully at the kind of tuner the unit uses. Many modern television sets are designed to be multisystem devices, meaning that not only are they capable of reading the NTSC signal used in North America and Japan, but they will also be able to deal with competing standards such as PAL and SECAM. This can be an important consideration, so it is important to make sure you understand these various formats and how they affect you as an end user. It is important as well to look at the type of components that can be connected to the new DLP television. Most modern TVs are built to accept signals not only from cable TV and satellite TV boxes but from DVD players, VCRs, and even computers. The presence of a VGA or DVI connection will allow the unit to function as a computer monitor as well as a television, but it is important to use caution when using any kind of rear projection TV for this purpose. While plasma TVs can often make excellent computer monitors, technologies like DLP may struggle to provide the depth and resolution that computer users are used to. Even though the prices of televisions in general, and DLP televisions in particular, have become a lot more affordable in recent years, these TVs are still major purchases, and it makes sense to give that purchase the consideration it deserves. As with any purchase, shopping around carefully will help you get not only the lowest price but the best overall value as well.
