Ssid what is it and how to prevent its theft

SSID, the shortened form of Service Set Identifier, is the network name of a wireless LAN system. This system picks up all transmissions of wireless communication, but only allows for the communication of two or more signals that share the same service set identifier number. All of the computers of the network must know and have the same SSID number on file in order to access the WLAN service, but knowing the numbers does not mean that an individual is able to use that WLAN service if he or she is not actually part of that network. The service set identifier number is most often found on the top of each transmission that is sent throughout the network. This generally can lead to service and safety concerns as there are people who can intercept this case sensitive number. This then can lead to them trying to access the network and share in the internet service or other files on the computers. For a business, this can be very dangerous with their potential competition being some of those who would wish to know their information.

For individuals, this is dangerous because many individuals keep their financial data on the computer and this then can be accessed and their accounts stolen. Methods that are being used to limit the chances of the SSID number of falling into the wrong hands include programs that limit the types of documents that the SSID number is displayed on. This helps somewhat since there are still programs and documents that require the SSID number to be visible for sending and communication. Other methods of protecting the SSID number is to consistently change the number, but this is difficult because then each computer must have the SSID number changed which means the widespread hand out of the SSID number to the employees and the chances that it might again fall into the wrong hands. The final method of handling SSID numbers and security is to attach an additional password that is for each individual.

This method limits the chances of one actually accessing both the service set identifier number and a password. This method is gaining popularity from those businesses with newer computers and a newer service provider and SSID.

Video projector tv technology

: For the ultimate home theater experience, serious viewers need a video projector and screen combination. Nothing compares to the image quality and screen size that this type of set-up can afford. A variety of video projectors are now on the market, giving consumers many good options for purchase. Today's video projectors use different kinds of technology, including cutting-edge liquid crystal display (LCD) and digital light processing (DLP) methods, and each kind has its pros and cons. Most projectors are compact and easy to assemble, requiring replacement of a light bulb every thousand hours or so. For maximum effect, projectors are best used in a darkened room, just like a movie theater. Before making the purchase of a video projector, be sure to consider the factors covered below.

The usual issues that apply to video devices also apply to projectors: Things like resolution, brightness, contrast, pixel ratio, color quality, number of inputs for external devices, aspect ratio and overall size are important. Of course, price counts also. Because there's only so much room in your home, think about how much space you're willing to devote to the video projector set-up before buying. It's wise to invest in a projector that's compact and easy to move.

Portability can make all the difference. A compact projector can be easily positioned in a room or completely dismantled. You can try out different arrangements at home and find out the most ideal location for viewing. Before buying, look for what's known as the ANSI (American National Standards Institute) Lumens rating. This rating indicates the brightness produced by the video projector. If the model has a rating of 1,000 or more, it will work well in your home. Keep in mind that the size of your screen and the distance you'll be sitting from it have an influence on brightness. Contrast ratio is another important factor to think about before buying. Contrast ratio works in conjunction with brightness to deliver a strong image.

With a high contrast ratio, viewers will get images with bright whites and deep blacks. Decent contrast ratios start at 1500:1 and go up. 2,000:1 is ideal for home theater. Pixel density is also critical to the quality of your projector. Generally speaking, a high pixel density equals a good picture. Viewers of high definition programming should be especially aware of pixel density when shopping for a video projector and find a model with a very high pixel count.

A count of about 1024 x 728 is fine for regular DVD viewing. HDTV requires a count of 1280 X 720 or 1920 X 1080, depending on the signal. Think about what the projector will be used for before deciding on a particular model. Most video projectors work best for showing DVDs of movies or special sports events. While prices for projectors are decreasing, on average, they now start at around $3000 and go up to $10,000. Check out New Technology TV for more information.

Dllhost exe

The DLLHOST. EXE is a registry process which is run automatically by the Microsoft Windows Operating system. This process is important for managing DLL based applications. DLLHOST is by default a startup process which means that the process runs from the minute you boot up your system. This file should not be terminated by the user unless it is found to cause problems. Bad DLLHOST processes can easily be identified using one of many free registry scanners available on the internet. DLL itself refers to the Dynamic-link library, this is a concept implemented by Microsoft in the Windows Operating system. It consists of using a shared library to run most of its applications.

These libraries usually end with *.dll or *.ocx extension. The latter is for DLL library files with embedded ActiveX controls. DLLs are in fact very similar to executable (*.EXE) files. This similarity is due to the fact that both DLLs and EXEs contain data, resources and code in variable combinations. Some common examples of DLLs include icon libraries, font files and such. Normally icon libraries have ICL extensions and font files the FOT extension.

Convert dvd to avi

Today it is possible to convert DVD to AVI and also AVI to DVD format. These two tasks and many others can now even be performed with a single piece of video editing software. AVI is a type of a video format which is commonly used today, and you can use a special piece of software called a DVD ripper to convert the AVI format into a DVD format with a single click. Special Software for the Conversion Most of the DVDs are high quality, and as a result of this are large in size. An average DVD can store 4GB of content. You can use special video software which converts the DVD content into an AVI or a MPG file with the same quality of the DVD but which takes up less space. Software Has User Friendly Interface Video software has a user friendly interface that will guide you through a step by step process of converting the DVD into AVI format. You should first insert the DVD into your DVD drive and then start the program. If DVD files are stored on the computer itself you can start ripping the files from the computer immediately. Settings in Software You can now make the relevant settings in the input setting dialog box as well as in the audio settings dialog box. In the output settings dialog box you can opt for settings as to whether to convert in AVI format or MPG format. You can even select the screen size, video format [PAL or NTSC], and audio quality level. Compression Methods Audio compression methods such as Lame MP3 can be used where the quality of sound is excellent and the size of the sound file is small. You can set the output settings in the export settings dialog box; you can also choose settings for display on widescreen monitors or normal monitors. Next is the setting for the max frame number. You can leave the other settings at their default value as these are mostly designed for use by professionals only. Destination for Saving You can then use the file menu to browse to the destination folder where you want the final AVI file to be saved. Then click on the record button and the process of conversion will begin. You can also use the conversion software to convert audio files from the DVD to MP# format or other formats such as FLV and MP4. The converted AVI files can then be save to your computer system or portable music player. Use a Decryptor You can also convert DVDs into small AVI files by using the split DVD option. Using this converts only the part of the DVD that you want to see. If an error occurs in converting into AVI format because of extra copyright protection, you can simply download a decryptor such as DVD decryptor and remove the protection. Most of the software for converting DVD into AVI format is available at very reasonable rates - only professional video software like Pinnacle studio with extremely advanced functions and settings will set you back a few hundred dollars.

Toll free conference calls

Conference calls are a convenient method of communicating with a lot of people all at once. Technologies today allow many different types of conference calling. For a small business, simple 3-way calling may suffice. This feature is available through your telephone company and whatever long-distance rates you have on the phone that originates the call will apply. When several people located in many different places need to access conference calls, a conference call company can provide this service. A basic conference call service offers audio conference calls (also called teleconferencing) over the telephone.

Usually, you have the option of toll-free calls or flat-rate calls. “Toll-free” is sort of a misnomer because “toll-free” does not mean it’s entirely a free call because the person or business that hires the conference call company pays for the service. Toll-free conference calls are free for the participants. With toll-free packages, participants use a toll-free number to dial into the call via the conference call company. The charges for the calls are usually by the minute for the length of the call. In many cases, the more minutes used, the less money per minute it costs. For instance, one package may offer 1,000 toll-free minutes for $70 or 7 cents a minute. If you go over 1,000 minutes, each additional minute would cost 7 cents.

Another package may offer 10,000 minutes for $400 or 4 cents a minute and 4 cents for each minute over 10,000 minutes. You can see the cost goes down with the larger packages. A flat-rate conference call package requires the participants to pay their own long-distance charges. They dial a regular phone number to access the call via the conference call company.

The company who hires the conference call company also pays a flat fee to set up the service. The conference call companies always offer features that augment their basic service. For example, you can have the conference call company record your conference calls and then provide a playback. The playbacks can even be on-demand so people can hear them at any time 24/7. As you might imagine, conducting a live conference call with dozens of people on the line at once could get a bit out of hand with everyone talking at once and noise in the background as well. Technology comes to the rescue with mute buttons that allow the moderator and/or operator to control what is broadcast on the call. The operators at the teleconferencing companies can assist you in many ways. In addition to connecting participants as they call in to access your conference, operators can even call participants and then connect them to your call. Operators can attend the entire conference call, providing opening announcements, introductions for host and speakers, moderating question and answer sessions and making closing comments at the end of the call. Audio conference calls are not the only options available to you. Web conferencing is another type of conference call that utilizes access through participants’ computers. Participants are able to view PowerPoint and whiteboard presentations and to share documents. Communication among participants can be audio or via chat formats. Upgrades of web conferencing services include application and desktop sharing, remote control and video conferencing. As you can see, there are many ways that businesses today can communicate effectively via conference calling. There are lots of conference-calling companies to choose from and the competition among them drives good bargains for business owners who will take the time to do a little research to find the best bargains.

What is cell phone tracking

Most new phones are equipped with GPS (Global Positioning System) to be able to be tracked by the provider. These type of phones can be tracked by satellites that are orbiting the earth. These satellites used to only be used by the government to help during warfare, but over the past several years, this technology has been put to use in many new different ways. The basic principle behind the GPS technology that makes this work is the ancient practice of triangulation. If you're not familiar about this practice, it basically works like this. You use two very distinctive landmarks to mark the center position.

The thing is you have to know the exact distance between the two landmarks in order to make this practice become accurate. Once you know the exact distance between the two landmarks, you make your self become the third vector to complete the triangle. GPS uses your cell phone with the GPS system inside it, and uses the satellite as its two basic landmarks. Based on how far the signal is away from the satellite's relative position in the sky, a computer can figure the location of the device giving off the signal to within a few feet.

Atsc

ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) is a group formed in 1982 that developed the ATSC Standards for digital televisions in the United States and in many other countries such as Canada, South Korea, Mexico, and Honduras. The abbreviations are also known to refer to the ATSC Standards itself. ATSC Standards is a digital television format which will in the long term replace the current NTSC television system, as is the case in United States by February 17, 2009 and in Canada by August 31, 2011. These new high definition standards produce a display resolution better than approximately six times its predecessor — it shows off a lucrative 16:9 wide screen images up to 1920x1080 pixels in size. Not to forget, other different image sizes are still supported so that a maximum of six standard definition channels can still be broadcasted. Sound wise, the ATSC is capable of a “theater quality” audio as it adopts the Dolby Digital AC-3 format, which also produces the 5.1 channel surround sound. When broadcasting with the ATSC and an analog signal, two separate channels are required as the ATSC requires an entire channel for itself. As virtual channels can be remapped to any other number from 1 to 99, ATSC stations will often associate with one of the NTSC channels or all stations will use the same number. Also, like many other systems, the ATSC is an interwoven standard, and is also heavily patented as it includes elements from MPEG, AC-3 audio coding, and the 8VSB modulation.

Comparison with Other Standards Nowadays, the ATSC system, despite previously being criticized as being too complicated for the ordinary and over-priced to be a household system, is relatively simplified and is moderately priced compared to the current world’s most used system, the DVB. Also, the ATSC signal, ironically, is more capable of adopting the changes in radio propagation conditions compared to the likes of DVB-T and ISDB-T. Were the ATSC capable of changing its parts such as its error correction modes, code rates, the randomizer, and the interleaver mode, it could become even more robust. Regardless of such fixed settings, it still is sturdy under various conditions. Antennas of the new age

Antennas have been around for a long time. Before the birth of cable television, homes would need it to just to get a signal. The person would need to put this on the roof and adjust it from time to time to get better reception. Satellite television has also changed this making these crude yet useful devices obsolete. The computer age has followed suit.

There was a time that an individual had to dial up just to get an internet connection. With the development of wireless routers that come with a WiFi antenna, work using the computer can be done without the need to connect any wires. Another term that is used for Wifi antennas are omnidirectional antennas. Some users who have this at home have said that it is better to have this replaced with a different kind. This is because the current antenna has difficulty reaching long distances since the signaling power needs to extend in many directions. One solution to address this problem is getting an external omnidicrectional antenna that is much more powerful than the old one. This gives internet access to people who have more than one computer located in different areas of the house. Universities and other offices use stronger devices allowing its workers to work via the web. This can be done to send emails or other important files that are essential for the entire business operation.

A strong antenna may pose a problem for the person at home. This is because the signal could reach people who live near the house and use it to gain internet access without the knowledge of the individuals who purchased the unit. In order to solve this, one should check if the external antenna is really needed. Also, aiming it a place where people in the house can only use it. Another way of letting people have internet access at home or in the office is by adding another access point. The person would need to connect the wireless router to one that has an Ethernet cable. This is because a wireless version and the kind that needs wires are not able to work with each other directly. The use of a repeater and an amplifier can also strengthen the signal in one’s home or in the office. This can be done by attaching it to the access point and in no time, the individual and others may enjoy doing some surfing in the net. These devices can be bought at the nearby cyber shop or one can surf the net and buy it online. Before getting it, the individual should canvass around to get the best price available. The person should also think if it is really needed for one’s home. Antennas come in different sizes and shapes. These are used for a variety of things such as listening to a program on the radio or for people to communicate in places that do not have telephones or cellular phones. Various instruments have also been used to amplify the signal. The person should just choose the kind that is really needed depending on the purpose then making use of it. The potential of it is endless and it’s use in giving people wireless internet access is another marvel that people will benefit from.

How can a person find good deals on cheap cell phones

There are a number of ways to get good deals on cheap cell phones. These methods range from buying phones at specific rates for various package deals to purchasing phones from third parties who can often give a person the best deal possible on their electronics. In any event, often the worst place a person can buy a cell phone is directly from the cell phone service provider. These businesses, like Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T, are known to charge more than the average retailer when it comes to their cell phone prices. If you are looking for a cheap cell phone that has all of the features of a high end modern phone but for much less than half the price, look no further than third party online retailers. These are the stores that specialize in providing a full service package complete with cell phone, headset, extra batteries, and even a plan tied to a specific carrier.

There is absolutely nothing that cannot be bought at one of these types of retailers. They’ll give you the best deal on cell phones, often with a rebate that far exceeds what other cell phone stores are offering, and buying a plan from them is a snap, too. The other option is to take advantage of buying in bulk. Chances are that most people have seen the advertisements talking about how families can save money by all being on the same plan. The same goes for buying cell phones. Often, if a person decides to buy a phone directly from the cellular service provider, the provider will give a bulk discount for purchasing two or more of the same phone. All a customer needs to do is ask for a multi-phone discount. Although these are two of the most popular ways to find a cheap cell phone, the most important thing a savvy consumer can do is shop around for a discount. If you are looking for a phone and you find one for a good price, keep checking. There may be someplace that offers a better deal than you thought.

Emoticon

A small text-based or graphics-based picture or icon used in a message in order to convey an emotion is known as an “Emoticon”. Emoticons have been in vogue since the days of the Morse code. Back then, they were used more as a code rather than a graphical symbol. Only people familiar with the code could interpret them. Emoticons gained popularity in the middle of the last century. During the mid-seventies, they were popular among users of the Plato system. By the end of that decade, these symbols started appearing on the Internet. Like their earlier usage, these symbols represented a specific meaning and were less graphical in nature. Scott Fahlman is the inventor of the original ASCII smiley emoticons : - ) and : - ( These symbols have to be viewed by tilting ones head ninety degrees to the left. The colon represents the eyes, the hyphen represents the nose and the braces represent the mouth. A huge number of variations have been developed to represent a myriad of emotions. For instance, ; - ) denotes a wink, : - D represents a wide grin : - O shows a surprised face, and so on. Since western text is read from left to right, all these emoticons are tilted to the left. Some users from Asia developed a series of emoticons that could be viewed straight. These used a pair of braces to outline the face, an underscore for the mouth and a pair of asterisks for the eyes like this (*_*) Most of the emotions in this type of emoticons are expressed through the eyes, whereas the western emoticons use the mouth for the same purpose. Since the advent of the graphical user interface like Windows, the emoticons have been replaced by cute pictures that depict the same emotion. Instant Messengers and forums automatically display these icons when they encounter a character string that depicts an emoticon.

One way for you to not pinch much from your wallet while making that awaited international call is to know what kind of phone will receive your call. Overseas calls to mobile devices such as pagers and cellphones can cost you much more than when you call to a land line phone. This is because of the system called "calling party pays" employed by several overseas carriers. Ask your honey if she can just look for a landline instead of calling her through her latest Nokia. How about getting some help from your good old smooth operator? NOT. Unless your call is for an emergency, don't let the operator sweet talk you. You'll see that what you can pay for only a few cents per minute could cost you some precious dollars after asking an operator to assist you with your call. Go PPC. No, it's not about your pubo-coccygeal muscles or those Internet marketing hype known as pay-per-click! It's about using prepaid phone cards. Enjoy the convenience of not having to think of your bills after making that international call through the use of prepaid phone cards. Just make sure that you don't fall for the mistake of buying expired cards or those that have high connection and maintenance fee. Opt for pre-paid plans. If you're not a prepaid card person despising all the fuss on knowing first all the hidden charges, prepaid plans could be of great help for you to save your hard-earned bucks. Websites that especially cater to those who'd really like to save on their international calls abound. Choose what will not burn much of your time and what you're most comfortable with. With these tips on how to save on your international calls, you don't have to look for other activities to just resist the temptation of making that international call. Just call!

How to run a successful conference call

: These days with more and more of us working from home, working on the road, and generally dealing with multiple suppliers, contractors and business partners in locations all over the world, the conference call is supplanting the face-to-face meeting. Here are some tips on getting the most out of your conference call... Tip One: Send Out an Agenda The key to an effective meeting is an agenda - this applies to any kind of meeting, not just a conference call. With a conference call, always make sure you have the instructions on how to access the conference call at the top of the agenda, preferably in a box or with some other text decoration to make it stand out. Another option is to send a meeting request from within your calendar application, whether it be Microsoft Outlook or Apple's iCal, or some other scheduling tool. The meeting request is sent as a specially formatted email, so you can add attachments just like with a regular email.

Attach the agenda, and repeat the instructions on how to connect to the conference call in the body of the email. Most conference service providers require participants to dial a special number (which may be different depending on where the user is, or it may be a national number), then enter a conference "room" number, followed by a security code or PIN. Make sure all the necessary details are included on the agenda and the meeting request. If the conference call is a regular status update, ensure you also send out the meeting notes from the previous call, since the first item on the agenda should be chasing people up for the actions they've agreed to be responsible for. Tip Two: Take Care of Housekeeping At the beginning of the call, call off the roll and ensure everyone is on the call. Introduce any newcomers to the rest of the group and invite them to spend a couple of minutes describing themselves and their role on the call. If anyone is missing from the participants list, immediately call them (preferably on their mobile) to get them onto the call as soon as possible. If they can't get on the call within a couple of minutes, proceed without them. Nothing detracts from a good conference call more than making everyone wait at the beginning. Next, ensure everyone has a copy of the agenda, and that they can all hear one another OK. If you are not going to be the one taking notes, make sure everyone is clear who is. This serves two benefits: firstly, the person taking notes is going to be careful and accountable, and secondly, a single set of meeting notes will be distributed after the call.

If this is not made clear, you may end up with several versions, which is both redundant and confusing. Finally, lay out the rules for interaction on the call. Because it's audio-only, the usual cues we use to indicate that we wish to take a turn at speaking are not present. Therefore it's worth stating at the outset what the rules will be. These can be as simple as "Please make a note of any questions and we'll deal with them in turn after each agenda point", or as sophisticated as listing the order of speaking of the participants, and asking each participant only to speak at their particular time. This last is called "round table" conferencing, and is particularly effective once people are used to it. It has the dual effect of keeping all participants engaged, and speeding up the time it takes to get through each point. Clearly it's unrealistic to expect people to stick to the interaction rules for the duration of the call, but laying them out at the outset will help ensure things run quickly and smoothly. Tip Three: Turn Off Speakerphone Unless you have a majority of participants all in one room together, you should turn off speakerphone.

Speakerphone and conference calls are a bad combination, unless you have a high-quality dedicated speakerphone. In order to prevent audio feedback, speakerphones automatically mute the speaker when a sufficiently loud sound is heard at the microphone. Unfortunately, few speakerphones do this particularly well, and often the speaker will mute because of its own output feeding back into the microphone. This means annoying dropouts and missed words and sentences. Because it's a conference call, often these dropouts can go on for some minutes before someone has the opportunity to pipe up with "We missed all that!" Needless to say, having to constantly repeat yourself can be very time consuming and irritating for all the non-speakerphone participants. Even if you're in the same room as someone else, it can sometimes be an improvement to use two handsets rather than use speakerphone. Tip Four: Send Out Meeting Notes You should ensure everyone on the conference call gets a copy of the meeting notes no later than the following morning, while the call is still fresh in everyone's minds. There are many helpful guides on the web for effective note-taking, but in essence:

  • Don't try to write down absolutely everything; just the items where an action needs to be taken
  • Keep track of who has agreed to be responsible for each action
  • Keep track of the deadlines for each action item
  • Don't forget to note the time and date of the meeting and who was present
If the conference call is a regular status update, ensure you note in the meeting notes the time and date of the next meeting. If possible, deadlines for action items should correspond to the dates of status meetings so that the notes can be quickly scanned (or even sorted) for items that need to be chased up in a given meeting. Tip Five: Keep it Brief Studies have shown that people start to suffer a number of unpleasant side-effects after holding a telephone receiver to their ear for longer than about an hour.

In any event, forty minutes is about the limit of most people's concentration span. If you find the call is starting to drag on beyond an hour, it's a good idea to wrap things up and continue either later that day, or preferably the following day. If you find this is a regular occurrence, it may be an indicator that you need to revisit the agenda, or possibly split the group up into separate, more focussed groups. A particular time-waster is having engineers and businesspeople on the same conference call. A better way to handle this is to have three shorter meetings - one with just the engineers, one with the businesspeople, and one with single representatives from each group to present the results and take any feedback to the next department meeting. With practice, you can keep the length of each meeting down to around twenty minutes.

The market for used business phone system equipment

Business phone systems and the companies who sell them exist in a world all their own. The competition is stiff, with several different retailers and wholesalers carrying the same brands. The competition for used and refurbished business phones and business phone systems is even fiercer, as many companies are searching for equipment that can be used to expand their current system. Often, phone and phone system manufacturers engineer their products so that they aren't universal and will not work with a variety of other products. This can be a poor selling point for buyers of new business phone systems, but if a company already has a system such as this in place and wants to expand, they have little choice but to use the same equipment. This is the reason why there is such a market for used business phone equipment. It is always much cheaper to hunt down a handset that is compatible with your system than it is to replace the entire system every time you need to add a few phone lines.

Additionally, so many businesses are ill prepared for purchasing the right phone system for their particular needs that they often end up replacing the system in a relatively short time. The old equipment can then be sold or refurbished and sold. Often, wholesalers and retailers will give discounts for new systems if they are able to take the system it is replacing as a "trade in". New and even used terminals, KTX add-ons and PBX equipment can be a major expense. It is often necessary to find out how much it will cost to expand the type of system you have, when possible. In many instances, purchasing a slightly larger system than you what you currently need can save you money as down the road, even used equipment may cost more than what you would have been able to pay for brand new.
