It was in 1992 when the term Forensic nursing was first heard. But what is it exactly? Forensic nursing is a specialty field that deals with the care of crime victims, collecting evidences and providing health care services in the prison system. It is a combined health care and judicial system profession to be precise. International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) is the official association of forensic nurses established in 1992 by a team of nurses who specialize in sexual assault examination. 1. A Day In The Life Contrary to popular belief forensic nurses don’t spend their day hanging around with corpses. In case the victim dies, the nurse has to work with the medical examiner (ME). 3. Other Considerations Forensic nurses are qualified to testify in court as an expert witness or a fact witness. As an expert witness, the nurse is allowed to give his or her opinions while on the witness stands in order to shed light on the case. On the other hand, as a fact witness, the nurse is only to state the details and answer the questions. A forensic nurse should state the information in an objective manner. It means that he or she should not speak for or against either the victim or the accused. As the duty calls for it, the nurse only has to state the information he or she obtained, not make conjecture about what he or she thinks happened. 4. Instead, sum it up briefly and move on to the more important recent achievements. Studies suggest that 50 percent of interviews may be of this type. Stress interview: In this version, the interviewer is curt and asks rapid-fire questions, an approach meant to raise your anxiety and test your ability to handle stress. It isn't personal, so don't swallow the bait and respond with annoyance. Instead, relax.
You're seeing through the game. If you handle your answers well, you'll be ready to ask your own questions. I've always felt that if you remember the interviewer doing a lot of the talking during an interview that the meeting was probably a good one. No one ever listened himself out of a job, as one former president said. So if you have a chance, ask good questions of your interviewer. Then sit back and listen. When you think about it you can see the connection. Because she was passionate about Statistics she was able to see and prove that disease was killing more troops than battle and then do something about it. What about you? What is the deep down passion that lights your life up. What is it that you love doing and being beyond all else. Michael Jordan’s passion is basketball. But most are unaware that his passion was such that he had written into his contract that he could play “pickup” games whenever he wanted. (For us non Americans this is playing with whoever is available on public sites) He just wanted to play basketball whenever he felt like it. There is no doubt that it was his passion that made him so brilliant, so extraordinary. Go on….. you can tell yourself. There is no need to tell others. Just have a go and tell yourself. What is that love that stirs you up - that love that others may not be interested in but is so important to you. What is it that makes you forget time? What is it that you love doing? We all have it. We all have at least one thing that we are passionate about. What’s yours? The bottom line is; passion is motivating. Passion is more motivating that money. Passion energises and transforms you. Anything being sent to a decision-maker should sell you, not just state facts. When conducting a job search, your cover letter and resume are in a pile for the decision-maker to review, one by one, along with a vast number of other documents submitted by other hopeful individuals. The odds that YOUR document is the very first ones on the pile are about a zillion to one! This means the decision-maker has probably read X number of cover letters (and resumes) before reaching your set of documents. With that in mind, I never recommend you start the cover letter with the sentence used in so many other letters: "Pursuant to your recent advertisement in the New York Times for the position of Staff Accountant, I am enclosing my resume for your review." B-O-R-I-N-G!! Plus, the decision-maker probably just read this same (or very similar) sentence about five dozen times. Remember, you want to GRAB the decision-maker's attention and SELL yourself to them. Since the cover letter is designed to market you to potential employers, don't state the obvious. If the cover letter does not create a sense of excitement and entice the reader, it is a waste of your time for writing it and a waste of time for the reader reading it. Keep track of how many times you use the words "I" and/or "my". After you write the letter, take a pen and circle all the I's and my's in the letter: more than five? Time to re-write some of the sentences. Here's an illustration of how to do that: instead of writing "I am looking for an opportunity for advancement with a new employer. My background is in retail management and I feel well-qualified for the Store Manager position with your company" you can write, "A background in retail management and proven record of obtaining results as a Store Manager are key elements in qualifying me for consideration as part of your team." Remember the PURPOSE of the cover letter: to highlight your background in the right light, sell your skills, and show the potential employer you are worthy of an interview. Explaining what you WANT throughout the letter doesn't tell the reader the BENEFIT of what you can offer, which is imperative for you to be successful. One of the techniques I like to use in cover letters is to pull out the top 4 or 5 achievements and mention them in bullet form with the letter. It serves as a wonderful focus point for readers' eyes and draws their attention immediately to your strengths. Here's a brief highlight in what would naturally be a longer cover letter: ...Recognized as a top-performer and dedicated professional, my record of achievements include: · Generating a 58% increase in new business during tenure as Regional Advertising Manager · Boosting client media coverage 50% and developing partnerships with previously unsecured media contacts There are many ways to say things but, as you can see, some words have a stronger impact on readers than others. In cover letters, e-resumes, and traditional resumes, you can change the reader's perception in a heartbeat by substituting various words or phrases for more traditional (and outdated) verbiage. See the outline below: NON-AGGRESSIVE VERBIAGE Set up entire department from scratch Worked closely with department heads Helped produce $3 million in sales Helped new employees In-depth knowledge of capital markets and corporate finance Assisted marketing department in strategies and bids Reduced expenses by 10% AGGRESSIVE VERBIAGE Established department from inception through successful operation Fostered relationships with department heads Instrumental in generating $3 million in sales Aided new employees Expertise in capital markets and corporate finance Actively participated in formulating marketing strategies Slashed (or cut) expenses by 10% In short, aggressive writing makes you SIZZLE, while passive writing tells your "story." Remember your goal is to effectively market yourself, not to author your employment biography.
What to Include in Nursing Resumes Nursing resumes are slightly different from every other resume that you would send out. Being that nursing is a specialized profession, you need to remember a few things when putting together your first resume. Nursing resumes can be difficult to write because they will not include the same information as a standard resume trying to secure an office position. Read through the tips below before you start sending out your resume to potential employers. First off, remember that nursing resumes will not include all past work experience. When applying for an office job, you usually show all of your past work experience, no matter how irrelevant it may sound. But remember that nursing is a specialized profession. You want to make sure that you put down your experience relative to nursing and downplay the rest of your work experience. This is not to say that you cannot include other work experience on nursing resumes, just be sure to not let those jobs overshadow your nursing experience. Remember to include all nursing related experience on your resume. Anything that pertains to nursing, or caring for people should be highlighted on your resume so that it stands head and shoulders above the rest. This can include any volunteer work that you may have completed, or any nursing work that you did while in college. Nursing resumes often include information about the rotations that you did while completing your degree. This shows that you have experience in the field and are capable of working full time. Nursing resumes should always include your educational achievements as well. Be proud of what you accomplished. If you were elected into the National Honors Society for nursing majors be sure to include this information. If you had a high GPA, include that also. Nursing resumes may be difficult to write, but if you follow the tips above you will be able to put together an intriguing package for hiring managers. Some of the most common specialties are: * Anesthesiology: Administration of various forms of anesthetic drug for diagnosis or during surgery operations. * Family Practice: Physicians in this specialty are concerned with the health-care needs of families and they are proficient in general medicine, being capable of caring for 90 percent of all problems presented to them by patients. * General Surgery: Manual and operative procedures to correct deformities, defects, and injuries. * Internal Medicine: The diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the internal organs such as the heart, liver, and lungs. * Obstetrics and Gynecology: The care of women during and after pregnancy and delivery, and the treatment of diseases of female organs. * Ophthalmology: The branch of medicine dealing with diseases or defects of the eye. * Orthopedic Surgery: The diagnosis and medical or surgical treatment of diseases, fractures and deformities of the bones and joints. * Pediatrics: The branch of medicine dealing with the development and care of infants and children, and with the treatment of their diseases. * Psychiatry: The treatment and prevention of disorders of the mind, including psychoses and neuroses. * Radiology: The use of radiant energy including X-rays, radium, and Cobalt 60 for treatment and diagnosis of diseases. You have to explain complicated conditions in simple language and you must be able to keep information private. Being able to stay calm in emergencies is very important. The qualifications required for physician jobs varies from country to country but are in most cases a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, an internship at a hospital and various postgraduate training.

Hearing aid dispensers have to get trained under a licensed hearing aid dispenser, and can then sit for competency assessment examinations.
As we can see above, all kinds of dispenser jobs require specialized training and internship.
It is exciting to look into the future of technology. In an age of continuous innovation and invention, when the discovery of today loses its sheen tomorrow, it is not easy to pinpoint technologies that will transform our future. Engineering and technical developments are everyone's concern, as they will not be confined to industry, university classrooms, and R&D labs. Instead, they will make a tremendous difference in our day-to-day lives. Here I will attempt to identify some of the technologies that will revolutionize our lives and our values in the coming years. 1. Quantum Computers Unlike current PCs, quantum computers will have switches that can be in an on or off state simultaneously. The mechanism that will make this possible is known as superposition, and the switches are referred to as quantum bits. The system will make quantum computers operate very fast. A basic quantum computer is likely to be operational by 2020. 2. Programmable Matter Scientists are in the midst of creating a substance that can take a specific shape to perform a specific task. The substance is known as claytronics, and it consists of catoms. Individual catoms are programmed to move in three dimensions and position themselves so that they assume different shapes. This technology is likely to have numerous applications ranging from medical use to 3D physical rendering. It may take around two decades to become a reality. 3. Terascale Computing Techies are working on a project that would make our PCs able to contain tens to hundreds of parallel working cores. The device will have the capability to process huge amounts of information. To create this technology, Intel is exploring the possibility of using nanotechnology and allowing for billions of transistors. 4. Repliee Robots Repliee is one of the most advanced life-like robots ever created. Repliee, an android, is covered with a substance which is very similar to human skin. Sensors placed inside the robot control its movements and enable it to respond to its environment. Astonishingly, the robot can flutter its eyelids and replicate breathing. Repliee operates best in a static condition. 5. Organic Computers To further advance the computing realm, techies need to create a hybrid CPU that is silicon based but contains organic parts as well. The most promising progress in information processing concerns a neurochip that places organic neurons onto a network of silicon or other materials. Future computers will be able to bridge the silicon and organic spheres to utilize processors that incorporate both of these elements. 6. "Spray-On" Nanocomputers The "spray-on" nanocomputer would consist of particles that can be sprayed onto a patient. It would monitor the patient's medical condition and communicate wirelessly to other machines. 7. Carrier Ethernet Carrier Ethernet is a business service/access technology. I searched for months, till I found them. I applied, my son applied, and then my girlfriend applied. Took a bit more time than a regular out in the world application. But we were all hired. It’s amazing what a well-written and nicely presented resume can do for your job search. Before you send yours out, follow this checklist to ensure you are sending out an excellent quality representation of yourself. 1. Grammar, spelling, punctuation - Use the grammar and spell check function, then print it out and read the document word for word. Spell checker doesn’t know that you meant "manager" when you actually typed "manger." 2. Capitalization - Use a manual such as the Gregg Reference Manual if you do not know capitalization rules. 3. Punctuation - Check for proper use of commas and semi-colons. Again, if you are unsure, refer to the Gregg Reference Manual. 4. Run-on sentences - Check to make sure you do not have run-ons that are hard to read. 5. Consistency - You must be consistent with your number usage (dates, money, numbers), plurals, and abbreviations. For example, don’t list one date as 8/2004 and then list another date as 3/15/2004. Also, be aware of listing software consistently (abbreviation use). MS Word and Microsoft Outlook are both correct, but not consistent. 6. Education section - When you have a degree, list only the year that you obtained your degree. When you list your dates, (i. e.: 9/1998 to 1/2002) many resume-scanning systems will not recognize that you obtained a degree, only that you attended college for a period of time. 7. Ampersands - Ampersands (&) do not belong on a resume. There are a few exceptions. One exception is a well-known company name (AT&T). Another exception is well-known industry terms (P&L). 8. Hyperlinks - All e-mail and web addresses that you list need to be deactivated in your resume. To do this in MS Word, highlight the link, go to the "Insert" drop down menu, scroll down to and click "Hyperlink", and on the lower left-had side of this screen there should be a little button that says "Remove link", when you find it, give it a little click and voila! Alternatively, you can highlight the link, right click on it, and scroll down to "remove link" to deactivate the link.

Australian Federal and State legislation states unlawful discrimination occurs when a group of people, individuals are treated less favourably than any other person or group of people because of their ethnicity, race, colour, sex, marital status, age or disability, religion and sexual reference, whether your a member of a trade union and any other characteristic specified under anti-discrimination or human rights legislation. Workplace discrimination and harassment can occur in: · Employment and selection of staff. · Training and type of training being offered. · Being considered for a transfer, promotion or sacking. · Work place conditions. What is defined as unlawful harassment? Under Australian state and federal legislation unlawful harassment can occur when a person humiliated because of their race, or intimidated and insulted because of there colour, ethnicity, or any other specified characteristic under anti-discrimination or human rights legislation. Workplace harassment can include behaviour such as: · Mailing or submitting sexually explicit or suggestive letters, notes or emails. · The making of derogatory taunts or comments about a persons religion or race. telling insulting The making of jokes about particular racial groups. · Nude or pornographic posters displayed. · The asking of questions about a persons sex life or personal life. The nature of harassment and or discrimination. No matter the seriousness of an incident, whether it be a one-off or prolonged and long termed, it will still be judged as harassment or discrimination. If left unchecked the continued harassment will erode the drive and ability of the individual or group to eventually effect the overall performance of their work performance. However the absence of any formal or verbal complaints is not necessarily any indication that harassment or discrimination is not occurring. In a lot of cases the person or group being harassed or discriminated against will not complain or report the incident in the belief that they will be deemed as wingers or the incident is too trivial. In most cases the victim of the workplace harassment or discrimination is lacking confidence in their own ability and has fear of retribution or even worse, being dismissed. Hostile working environment As an employer you will also need to be aware of your responsibilities in making the work environment a safe place from a culture of sexual or racial harassment. Both are deemed as HOSTILE. An example of a potential hostile working environment would include the display of nude or pornographic material, swearing and crude conversations, racially or sex specific jokes. What can not be classed as harassment or discrimination. However it must be remembered that comments and advice given by supervisors, work colleagues and managers on the work performance or work related behaviour of an individual or group should not be confused with workplace harassment or discrimination. Feedback during normal performance appraisals and work performance meetings will always be deemed as stressful and will in some cases effect the well being of the person or group being appraised. However, managers and supervisors should always keep these concerns in mind and perform any necessary appraisal with sensitivity without avoiding the need to provide full and frank feedback to their staff. What is workplace bullying? Bullying behaviour can range from obvious verbal or physical assault to very subtle psychological abuse. This behaviour would include: · Psychological harassment. (mind games) · Excluding or isolating targeted employees. · Assigning impossible tasks or jobs to targeted employees. · Physical or verbal abuse. · Inconvenience selected employees by deliberately changed work rosters and shifts. · Yell and scream offensive language. · Intimidation · Undermine work performance deliberately by withholding vital job information.

Here are just a few ideas to get you thinking. 1. Volunteer. Not many people are aware of this, but, if you live in the United States, there’s a Presidential Volunteer Service Award that you can earn for the time you are spending volunteering in your kids’ activities. Whether you’re helping at school or through Scouts, you can earn this award. Although it isn’t business related, it does show an employer that you are motivated and dedicated. Or you can find leadership positions where you can volunteer. Titles like the President of the PTA, School Fundraising Coordinator, or a Board of Directors for an Organization look great on your resume, plus you’re setting a wonderful example for your children. 2. Go Back to School. If you’ve wanted to get your degree or an advanced degree like an MBA, you can now do it online. While baby is sleeping, you can study and take your tests. It’s not easy, but it also shows that you had incentive during the empty time on your resume. 3. Build a Business Look into ways you can build your own business. If you do the legwork while baby is young and get the foundation built, then you can either sell the business or choose to jump in with both feet once you face going back on the career path. 4. Be an Activist Make a name for yourself fighting for a cause you believe in. Before you go on an interview, compile press releases you’ve written, interviews, and articles along with results and accommodations. When you’re asked “What have you been doing for the last five years.” You can reply, “I’ve been working to reduce child abuse by helping to pass a bill that….” Pretty impressive. And, again, you’re setting a remarkable example for your children. Here’s my big warning. All though all of these activities will look great on your resume, they all take time. If your goal is to stay home and enjoy your children, don’t get so loaded down with volunteering, studying and helping others that you end up missing out on all the childhood wonders in your own home.
